Farrell became only the second Briton to win the top award
Great Britain captain Andy Farrell and coach Brian Noble landed the big prizes at the Gillette International Rugby League Awards dinner in Leeds.
Farrell, who will lead Britain out in Saturday's Tri-Nations final against Australia, clinched the Golden Boot for the game's leading player.
And Noble, who is in his first season in charge of the national team, was named international coach of the year.
Farrell became only the second Briton after Ellery Hanley to win the award.
The 29-year-old beat off the challenge of Australians Shane Webcke and 2003 winner Darren Lockyer to lift the title, which was presented by former GB captain and coach Hanley, who won the Golden Boot in 1989.
Farrell has enjoyed his best-ever season, winning the Super League's Man of Steel award for the second time and captaining the Lions to their first hat-trick of wins in over a decade.
Noble was named international coach of the year
He has not missed a Great Britain match since making a try-scoring debut against New Zealand in 1993 and will win his 34th cap on Saturday to climb to fifth place in the British all-time list.
Farrell, who led Wigan to within one game of a second successive Grand Final appearance this season, will captain his country for a record 29th time.
Noble guided his club side, Bradford Bulls, to the 2004 World Club Challenge by defeating Penrith Panthers, and narrowly lost out to Leeds Rhinos in the Super League Grand Final after finishing runners-up in the regular season.
Lockyer was named international back of the year ahead of team-mate Anthony Minichiello and Britain winger Brian Carney, while Farrell beat Webcke and Bradford prop Stuart Fielden to the forward of the year award.
New Zealand teenager Sonny Bill Williams was named international newcomer of the year, ahead of Australian Karmichael Hunt and the British duo of Danny McGuire and Stuart Reardon.
Russell Smith won the top international referee award and the developing nations prize went to French forward Djamel Fakir.

If the IRL wants to try and sell this BS to Rugby League fans that this is the best player in Rugby League...I am not here nor will I accept the ranking. Good luck to him, he has been a UK RL pin up boy and heralded for years since making his debut as a teenager in the UK...IMO, he is nothing spectacular and overrated.
It amazes me how Newcastle's Danny Buderus is not amongst the players mentioned for this award...Don't quote me, but he was Newcastle's stand in captain, Dally M player of the year in the best competition, NSW Captain, a standout in S.O.O., solid for Australia...it amazes me that this guy was not mentioned and Shane Webcke was who IMO had a down year at Origin and during the backend of the year struggled with injury.
fat_mike said:if farrell won it for his style of play then nathan hindmarsh shouldve been mentioned. absolute freakin workorse in attack and defense, carried his club team most of the year, changed the way the first gb match went, played his guts out at S.O.O and is in my opinion the best backrower in the world at the moment.
Good on Farrell for winning it, but stewy fielden has dominated and has been more of a rock for his club and country than farrell.

Agreed. And why am I getting the feeling that people are basing nominations and the result of this "award" on performances in the Tri-Nations alone? From memory the season started way back in March.
So it's official.
Andy Farrell is now "the best Rugby League player in the world"...

Cheers.
