I'm in no position to comment on the junior development of NRL in the Illawarra and St George districts but I believe the key to making the club a success lies in the grass roots of the sport. ( of course I'm stating the bleating obvious here) To get the population embracing the sport at its conception. Do this, create a culture, a following of religious proportions. Do this and the community will open their wallets and hearts and embrace the sport with passion and commitment. Do this and we blow Politis out of the water for tpa's.

Again I feel silly commenting as I have no figures to back up my argument. I merely make comment as a idle observer. I terms of population growth I doubt there is a bigger growth area. We have the population. The amount of schools and the modern day obsession with academy based sports is phenomenal. Working parents forking out big dollars to have young sporty children participate in specialist training is at epademic levels. I observe this occurring all over Wollongong and Southern Sydney. I see the many athletic, speedy children and families predominantly choosing sports other then league. I could be completely wrong and hopefully someone involved in the sport at a junior level completely smashes my theory. If it is as I see it, a Societal trend it has the potential to completely change the direction of League in our districts and not in a good way.

If you’re counting our 1 premiership then you can only do that from 1999 as it’s clear you don’t recognise our club prior to the merger. That’s ok. So looking at it that way you have only won 2 comps in that time vs. our 1. Considering you’re resources and how close you have been that’s a pretty poor return IMO.
If you choose to count from 74 to 99 then it’s 2 apiece.

However for the life of me , I just don't understand how you could take any real enjoyment from winning the trophy ? How many of your players are home-grown lads , from your own juniors ?

It's not just about being pleased that you have won a premiership , it's also about taking pride from the fact that your juniors have matured into players , whom are good enough to beat the best that the game can offer - the entire community would appreciate such an accomplishment .

Well , I will concede that we may have 1 or 2 at the Dragons , but we certainly don't clean our cupboard out every year and get replacements such as SB Williams , Tedesco and that no- name Cooper Cronk etc. etc. and that bluudy thug from the north of England Porley or was that Morley .

Anyway , there no doubt that we two ' armchair experts ' shall continue to disagree on this particular subject , so I shall wish you the seasons best and be off .
