Another Eden Park story

I'd like at least 1 match at Eden Park maybe a final as well but I'd like to see matches taken to areas such as Chch, Wellington, Waikato Stadium, Taupo or Rotorua.

8 games at EP and the low drawing games to be played at other venues in NZ, perhaps this is what the CEO was referring to when he said they'd take games around NZ

:lol:About right

Jesus Warriors, sod the council and helping to bail out what isn't your prob. Sort the shit out with the coach and poor season first, or you'll be lucky to make Wingham Park on the Coast your home ground and fill it.

Sweet, just saved $500..

12 home games, 8 at EP, 4 around the country.

Scurrah has made up my mind for me.

How do you work that one out? He's in the article showing skepticism. I'd say he's being diplomatic in that he thinks its a crap idea.

"Auckland councillors were divided yesterday over whether the public should have a say."

Aren't they elected? And they don't know if the public should have a say? Bet the public have a say come next elections.
Glad Alf Filipaina and John Walker are on the council.

This really stinks. RWC forced the councils into overspending. For what? To put profit into the coffers of the IRB. What do they put back into our communities? Nothing.
And now league is expected to move to help pay the debt.

Hope we never host a RWC again.

Ah, but didn't you reap all these rewards and mega money the tourno was going to bring in? The 'third biggest sporting comp in the world?!'
Total BS and suckered in...And now League is being asked to come in and help pay for the c**k up.
Warriors should simply tell them to **** off. But then you poor rate payers will be hit again, but thats another topic

Another example of decisions made by people who have NFI. I've been to Mt Smart and agree that it has a great atmosphere. The impression I get from you guys is that moving to Eden Park would be like ANZ Stadium with less than 20,000. I'm sure you don't want the boys to have to go to NASA for their pre season training.

Eden Park felt wrong when rugby league was first played there for the WC final in '88. We were down 24-0 at half-time too and at that stage it seemed like a farce.

Doesn't EP attract a yobbo element too? Or do they just turn up for the novelty of seeing the Warriors there once per season? (therefore presuming they'd drop out once it was a regular thing).

Damn shame that superdome in Manukau wasn't built in the early '90s.

I think it would suit Wayne to be based at Eden Park. He would have an outfit that needs his club, rather thanbeing just a glorified tenant to the super city.

Scurrah needs to stand up and be counted, make a noise , create some headlines, ie, the Auckland Council can go f**k itself.....

He is very silent...

TBPH, I'd rather he focused on the coaching situation at the moment. The club sa been make to look stupid this year by making too many public comments (Bluey judge me round 6, Watson-Glenn etc, Duncey's apparent I wouldn't change my squad for anyone)... I would say behind closed doors he'd be letting the Auckland City Council know the Warriors' thoughts, and I'm sure he'd be going off the boards thoughts, particularly Glenn and Watson's thoughts. I don't think he needs to come out with a loud quote about it.

What everyone fails to mention in these kinds of articles is that the REAL problem is that Eden Park is a dog of a stadium in the wrong part of town. If Eden Park was a good stadium (or even average) in a better part of town, all these problems would disappear. Shortsighted idiots though have continued to pump millions into the Eden Park dog and now there is nowhere else to go.

I always thought all NZ cricket grounds were Rugby Stadiums masquerading as cricket grounds. (with a couple of exceptions that is)

Mind you Mt Smart isn't a cricket ground either but they've played cricket thers

Can you really call Cricket Max Cricket? With 4 stumps and the maxzone I'm not sure it counts, or did they play other cricket there too?

Many years ago. During a 9 game tour of NZ World Series Cricket played a couple of games there

Is there some reason why some stadium names aren't sold in Auckland?

Namely Mt Smart, North Harbour Stadium and Eden Park.

Mt smart was Ericsson (which a lot of people still call it), what happened there?

The stadiums not suburban grounds in oz seem to have em.

ANZ, Allianz, AAMI, Suncorp, Skilled, dairy farmers......

Surely it would be worth a bit, you have it mention bloody everywhere. Radio, tv, billboards, concert ads etc
