Do you support your rugby union national team - e.g. Wallabies and All Blacks?

Just wondered because in England it seems many rugby league fans are hostile towards the England rugby union team. Is it the same down under?

Yes. All self respecting RL fans despise their national RU team. If they don't they're not a pure leaguie in my opinion (repeat, my opinion - so no Kiwis posting about how they love the ABs please).

I don't give a sh*t about the Union world cup but I do like going down to the ground and supporting the Northland rugby team and having a few beers.

I support the South Africans because it wont affect the league internationals.
I was also hoping France would get knocked out so the country would focus on the League French side.

I support any minnows Against the Bore Blacks, because any loss by them causes throes of misery amongst my Unionite friends and workmates, and much glee for me. Having said that, I do not actually watch said matches as that would be more tedious than drinking non-alcoholic beer for 6 hours.

Not really. Not that I actively want them to lose but I really can't bring myself to care if they win, lose, draw, etc.

I guess seeing the Wallabies beat NZ is amusing - mainly because it means so much more to the NZers than it does to us. This is why you see about 10 times more All Bleck supporters in Sydney pubs at Bledisloe Cup time than Wallabies supporters.

In fact, I sometimes suspect that it's expat Kiwis keeping Union afloat in Oz. There are 23,000 of them coming to live in Oz every year, after all...

I dont mind seeing the All Blacks lose just as long as its not against the Wallabies.

Haha, exactly my thoughts. Go the Boks!

As screeny said, it is the duty of any self-respecting league fan to despise their union counterpart. I hope the Wallabies lose every match they play, irrespective of who they play against. Mind you, union is only a minor sport in this country so isn't worth thinking about 99% of the time.

I see it as rather unpatriotic to death ride your national team.

But the England RU team represents the RFU who have spent 100 years trying to death ride RL, and therefore do not represent me in any way, shape or form. In fact they stand against everything that I find quintessentially English (fair play, honour, moral rectitude, supporting the weak etc).

If not supporting the RFU is unpatriotic then I'm Benedict Arnold.

Lucky for me the Kiwis are my national team cause i support them with everything i have. The soft option of the all blacks i hate and detest with passion.

Ditto. I've watched about 5 mins of rugby union's last world cup and that was an effort.

I like watching Union games that are absolute thrashings because you actually see some good attacking play.
When the big teams clash it is like watching paint dry.
Actually - the best game of Union i've ever seen was an Aus v Barbarians game where both sides chucked the ball around like on one's business and didn't bother with all that kicking bullsh*t - and even the ref didn't think it was all about him and his silly whistle.

I hate the Wannabies too...

Their combined skill level is below that of the worst team in the NRL.

RU is the only sport where I want England to lose. The media coverage they get is way out of proportion to the REAL popularity of the sport. Most Englishmen couldn't care less about any form of rugby until the media shove the RUWC down their throat, even then it has to be on the back of England doing well. Otherwise it's "forget it and let's get the soccer on telly".

I don't care for yawnion so I don't follow the Wannabees.

I am a proud Australian though, so I won't wish them to lose. I just don't take any notice of their crappy little tournament played on grounds that were probaly owned by League in the 30s anyway....

Same with the soccer world cup last year. I hate soccer. But I didn't wish the Socceroos to lose. I just pretended the tournament didn't exist.

If it doesn't exist there's no one to support...

I don't necessarily want the Wallabies to lose...though I don't care, and find it amusing, when they do. sh*te sport. Pff. Repeat for Soceroos (I laughed my arse of when they got flogged by Iraq) and in AFLs case, Swans as they're too sh*t to have an international team worth noticing.
