BREAKING NEWS: A young woman's claim that she was sexually violated by men believed to be with the New Zealand Rugby League team is being investigated by police in Wellington.
The alleged violation is believed to have happened on Sunday night in Lower Hutt, at a location where members of the team were gathering.
Wellington CIB are investigating the complaint, which relates to an incident alleged to have occurred in Lower Hutt on Sunday night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell said the young woman was very distressed at what took place.
The Kiwis suffered a humiliating 58-0 defeat by Australia at Westpac Stadium that day.
He said the police inquiry had just begun and it would be some time before it was completed as the team was now playing overseas.
"A central focus of the investigation is to establish the identities of the men involved. Just who they are is not clear at this point," he said.
Police had contacted New Zealand Rugby League management.
