Good point. Technically this Under 20's would be run under the umbrella of the NRL and not the NSWRL. So in this sense it wouldn't interfere with JV ideology. But it may effect it in the sense that it would take away one less Balmain and one less Wests team (Flegg).

I'm still hoping its all talk - I probably enjoy the flegg comp even more than PL to be honest and I don't think it serves anyones best interests to have the wests and balmain districts served by one senior junior rep team - especially not when Balmain have finally got their act together in regards to junior development after years of neglect.

No actually their increased focus on junior development appears to have very little to do with the hawkes money and the results have been evident the last few years.

I don't think Balmains financial troubles are much of a secret

I have heard this also.
What I heard was, no Premier League no Jim Beam Cup. That becomes the State Cup (probably sponsored by Jim Beam).
The under 20's play before the NRL matches and *some over 20* will be allowed.
The Sharks would apparently hook up with Newtown in a feeder type relationship, for any other contracted players.
The thing that struck me straight away, was a huge expense (a PL team) is to be lifted of the NRL clubs and shared with a feeder club.
I think this is designed to help with the financial pressure the pokie tax will create.
But that is all just speculation.

PL has ben a huge expense for some time. Since 2000 clubs have had the opportunity to outsource but few have (Warriors - Jets and the Cougars JV). A lot of this talk of "expensive PL" and "lets give the NRL clubs a chance to outsource" is recycled news designed to talk up the need for revising the NSWRL yet again.

Brook, good to hear Balmain getting their act together. There is a decent nursery out there from the old Wests Ashfield areas to the North West and the Inner City. Let's hope we start seeing some improved results in the next few years.
