I would host a Pacific Cup in Auckland during SOO selling TV rights zeperately

Such that all nations can pay their players $25k per game

Riiight. So 4 teams x 17 players x 3 games @ 25k each. That's more than $5m.

Yeah I can see them getting enough from TV to pay for that. The whole world cup just sold for $10m and that's 25 games and includes the top nations. But I'm sure they'll get more than $5m for six games during origin played in nz and featuring tier 2 teams...

I live in Newcastle and frankly no one even knows about this match. If there is actually se advertising closer to the game things might turn around. Meanwhile we continue to wonder why international rugby league is treated as second rate. If the NRL and everyone involved in the game treat it as a joke and dont advertise than that's exactly how the general public will view it. If you want to grow the game you have to make the effort.

Then again this is league we're talking about.

Time to grow these events are think about selling them beyond the Australian TV market

Anyway $10mil is just Australian TV rights. Time to think internationally. Interesting to see how Europe fairs on the RLWC TV rights. Why not ESPEN or BeinSports join the bidding process

Maybe we need a better negotiator

$5m should be the minimum acceptable tv deal for a Pacific Cup made up of the elite RL stars

I have no interest in the 6 nations rugby but it seems to be broadcast into countries beyond the 6 nations involved

But we need a regular schedule

Without it - no players and nothing to broadcast or build up each year

Just had another look at Ticketmaster, still pretty empty. When you price single tickets at just under $100 what do you expect?

The Wallabies play something like 15 tests this year including a 3 test series against England during the super rugby season.. I know the TV deal has been done and so it's not so simple going forward but more international games during the season where they are not an afterthought I think is really important.. I think.. realistically but also optimistically. Still have the rep weekend each year and then play the origins on stand alone weekends which also have a pacific cup including NZ and possibly a few other games. You don't have to pay each player 25k per game. realistically a smaller amount would stem the tide of people not playing in case they get selected for origin.. If Australian selectors make it clear with Semi that they won't pick guys only on the 3 year residency basis then that helps and still have the end of year tours.. Australia might play 5 tests while NZ can fill their coffers with 8 or 9.. On another note I think the media have talked about this stuff soooo much more lately then in previous years.. 2 separate articles in the telegraph on Friday 3 weeks out from the game.. The Semi Radradra stuff has actually brought the international game into the spotlight and with England having bennett as a coach it's all on the way up... P.S. Theo Fages has been playing well for St Helens.. France might finally have a chance to go alright..

Big part of the problem.
I was expecting $50-$75 max.
Think there might be some give aways the week building up to it.
Poorly promoted so far.

There was heavy promotion of the ANZAC Test yesterday at Newcastle. Flyers were handed out on entry with a promotion of a 'Double Pass' that gets you a 'Test + Knights v Sharks ticket' at a 25% saving. Not the greatest of deals there, but at least its something.

The entire Andrew Johns stands is now available for purchase, although it would appear only the top half of top tier are actually on sale. A dew more bays available in Western stand now too. There has been lots of ads on tv for the game past week, feel there may be a decent crowd now.

Why not play the the game at Suncorp and get 40k??

Or better still, play it in Perth.

Why, it's not like there's lots of them?

And they're the most competitive they've ever been.

Weird.

Mainly because it is often an NRL, wrestle-dominated style that prevails.

And to be honest, 75% of the international games that are covered in the media and shown on telly are Aus v NZ. It's become very stale. It's a bit like seeing the Broncos on Friday night football every week.

Any updates on ticket sales?

http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/event/13005063F792E791?brand=&tm_link=tm_homeA_g2&hot_ticket_brand=

Click through for a look.

I'm sure that the stadium still hasn't been opened completely for sale. The 'wings' of the Western bottom stand have been unavailable since they went on sale. Whilst most of the bays are appear half sold in the Andrew Johns stand, I think its because only the bottom halves of each bay have been available.

That said, who knows how many will be there. Maybe 20,000 ?

How can this not sell out? I thought that was the whole idea to take it to at 25-30k stadium out of the cities?

Its weird for Newcastle. The ground record was set at 32,890 in 2011 for Australia v New Zealand. That game was however Darren Lockyer's last match on Australian soil, and as ridiculous as it sounds, there was a Newcastle Knights player in Akuila Uate staring.

There's been advertisements on the nightly local news, and the radio stations are running promos. I havent seen anything about a fan day or anything yet.

Most significant factor for most Novacastrians is the price. Its $91 + BF to get a seat in either the Eastern or Western stands between the 20m lines. I get that we should price our premier events accordingly, but that price is a bit out of touch for what people were expecting to pay I feel.

Be surprised if it doesn't reach 25k. Of course if the NRL had anything about them re marketing and the media wasn't so Origin obsessed (and by that I mean mainly NSWRL obsessed) then the game would have sold out weeks ago.

good thing about the perth test is they are selling double ticket packages for both the Manly game and Souths game with a test ticket and they have set aside half the stadium as NZ fan space for all the games so not only will the ground be packed and go close to smashing the ground record for third year in a row but it will be a great atmosphere with it split into fanbase areas.
