Manu is fine at test level, he gets baby sat by the best center NZ rugby league can muster.
The rest of the defensive line is sound also, which can compensate for Manu's poor reads.

Manu makes better decisions at test level because he has a better communicator paired with him and there is more time with less conflicting decision options under pressure (this is by virtue of what the entire D line is doing inside of his position),

So the Kiwis don't fragment like the Warriors.
They don't slide too late.
They don't often have lazy or clocked off players that don't chase out from the inside.

All this preliminary work means Vatuvei ends up defending in a very clear narrow corridor.

Jason Nightingale is a better prototype for a test Winger.

I firmly believe in Wingers as specialist defenders that have Try finishing qualities.

Line breaks are rare out wide now days, block busting centers like Hurrell can't make the Kiwis, even when available, specialist defensive centers that draw and pass are the way to defeat Australia.

Try's are scored either off kicks or by creating space on the edges.

The Kiwis don't win consistently through powerful backs.

The Kiwis are number one at the moment because they consistently keep Australia to twelve points or less.

Defensive players lay the platform for victory for the modern Kiwi game plan, this puts us in the ball park with Australia.

Johnsons forwards give him space, Johnsons speed and footwork creates gaps by virtue of committing defenders, outside of that people score or he scores.

The Kiwis right edge is better than it's left because boring old test legends like Nightingale and his center, plus Proctor....all know to run angles and are players in motion for eighty minutes.

On our left edge you have a great Impact Prop that can smash over in the corner with players on him....not a bad option....but the prototype player that has changed the Kiwis fortunes are all the smart defenders that defend three sets on our goal line in a row....sometimes more.

That is why we win....not through players that can score special Try's or get a roll on in isolation.

Would I pick Manu ?

Absolutely.

Not because he is essential, rather he has qualities that the Kiwis can use.....and more importantly this kiwi line up can afford to defend his defensive flaws.

Were the defensive considerations not an option, I would never pick Manu.

And the reasons you give, I like Sam Perrett.

Whilst I don't agree with all of it, that is a very good post mate.

Whare will be out of the Four Nations. Did his ACL at training yesterday.

SKD likely to play right centre you would imagine.

Luke not good enough.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/im-not-good-enough-for-new-zealand-test-side-admits-hooker-issac-luke/news-story/2de9df9965c9a3c77b2e661f16f4d387?from=public_rss&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed
WARRIORS hooker Issac Luke has produced a brutally honest evaluation of his NRL form, admitting he would drop himself from New Zealand Test side if he was the coach.

The Kiwi co-captain on last year’s tour of Britain, Luke has found his form put under the spotlight since his off-season move from South Sydney.

Test coach Stephen Kearney is due to name his line-up on Sunday night for the Test against Australia in Newcastle next week.

“To be honest, if I was Stephen Kearney now, I would probably leave me out, just because I’m not happy with my performance,” Luke said on Thursday.
“I’ve been pretty up and down the whole season.

“This year I don’t think I’ve matched the requirements for the Kiwi jersey.”

His struggles have mirrored that of the entire Warriors squad — with the revamped roster languishing in 13th position after a 42-0 thumping by Melbourne.

Luke said he would also accept demotion to the bench for the Warriors’ match against St George Illawarra on Sunday — or even the axe to the NSW Cup.

Being dumped isn’t anything new for Luke — but he is heartened by the way he dealt with similar circumstances during his time with the Rabbitohs.

“I’ve managed to react pretty well from it,” he said.

“Hopefully I don’t have to do that, but if that needs be, then I’m prepared for that.”

To be fair, Nikorima would do a good job and so would Leuluai but there's no way he sits out this one

Can appreciate that he reocgnises his form hasn't been up to standard but odds are he does get picked and now we have our starting hooker coming out saying he isn't playing good enough to actually be there. Just makes us look weak.

Much rather hear instead of "I probably wouldn't pick myself" something like "if they pick me I'll bring my best to justify it".

Not that Luke is really the master speaker, but spin it positively.

That's us done I think.

Having said that, had Foran had a good game in a kiwis jumper?

Sounds like we'll be reuniting the highly successful warriors halves pairing

Surely Norman is a better option.

Though is he even eligible for the Kiwis? I was under the impression he was.

We have Tohu Harris of course haha.

He is eligible but not interested.

It could well be Harris at 6. Or tommy. Or I suppose Nikorima with some green hooker taking his bench spot. We're done
