Are players in the NRL getting softer?

Is the amount of games effecting that players too much? I think players are experiencing burnout & not enjoying there footy as much. Now the NRL is infested with money hungry players that are still playing only for the money.....
The heart & soul of our game is that the players want to play footy for the game, not for the $10k they get for turning up.

I wonder what would happen in all players earned $1,000 a week & then were put onto incentive programs. ie: Joey gets $20k for a win / Kimmorley $17.5k etc

I think Brad Fittler would have turned up for a few more games in the last few years.

Obviously they would get nothing for a loss (other than their standard $1,000), but shouldn't that be the way to entice our money grabbers to turn up to win, rather than turn up for some money to blow at the TAB?

I think the players are overpaid and that is why they don't always put in 100%. Put them all on win bonuses and you will see players putting in every game. They have got it to easy these days.
Every team has got a hiding this year so you can't say they are playing to their full potential. A lot of players just go through the motions and get a big fat pay cheque. Put them all on win bonuses and let them earn their pay.

I think it's the amount of money they are getting paid. It has Americanised the game and each player is pretty much a gun for hire. There needs to be more incentives placed in players contracts to get the most out of them. Look at Craig Smith. He has the opportunity to earn more money than he currently does with Saints by simply staying on the field yet he baulked at that. I think that is the mindset of most players unfortunately.
