A couple of points
  1. We already have room under the cap to fit a player in and we are supposedly getting some cap relief for JDB. So why would we offload a forward to but a forward, still have a vacancy on the roster and especially when we are already short of forwards?
  2. Host would be on minimal money so hard to see it having any effect financially as to who we might sign.
Yes tell WIN to organise a TPA for the new player add it to the JDB salary compensation and keep Host. We need to rotate our forwards and keep them healthy and fit.

We don't need a big money signing unless it's
1) a full-back who can tackle
2) a right centre who can tackle
3) a winger who has played rugby league before
4) a coach who can get a side firing (and I mean just playing well, looking cohesive, with a bit of structure and energy - not winning every week) for more than the duration of his contract renewal discussions.
5) a proactive board that gives a crap about something other than their own status

An extra prop wouldn’t hurt.

If it isn't Merrin, then I would be thinking an outside back. Names such as DWZ and Peachy come to mind. DWZ is now free to negotiate, while Peachy wants to leave the Gold Coast and come home. DWZ won the Golden Boot award last year, while Peachy was a NSW rep. I don't want Peachy.

Could Boyd still want to come back to Sydney?

If we are looking to offload Host, which I can't see why, but again if so, then we are looking at 3 players prior June 30 cut-off.

My guess is that we are:
1. Seriously considering a return by Merrin as an extra prop at least for the remainder of this season. Merrin is not a lock, so prop for me.
2. We would need to fill JDB's spot as a like for like. Word is we are looking at the Eels for that.
3. Probably a back. I'm hoping we will promote one of our DS players to fill the last spot. Masters or Saab would gain valuable experience imo, rather than signing a reject from another club.

Masters is off contract at the end of the year would be interesting to see how he would go in the NRL.
Like dragonslayer has suggested.

Nathan Brown from the eels would be handy, but he's one of their only players not off contract this season...

Masters is no where near FG standard, he has struggled in CC this year. His defence makes Rava and Euan look first class. Or maybe its the coaching.....

Yeap last time do saw him play he looked like he was unfit.
It will be interesting to see how he goes tomorrow.

Its interesting GD.
We have 4 of the 6 DS players off contract at the end of 2019, inc Blacker, H.Lomax, Lovodua and Masters.

Who do you think of those 4 we should keep? My feeling is we keep Blacker and Lovodua and let go the other 2.
Also, do you think Ford, Lovodua or even Saab be added to the NRL 30 list next year?

I think blacker is a must
If we lose Robson then must keep Lovodua

Definitely blacker and lovodua may be worth keeping as he can play many positions.
I think that Ford must be added.
He played well all year.
Saab would be close as well but maybe not till 2020.
There is plenty for talent coming though.

Macca's our best dummy half and a bigger body in the middle would be preferable.

I hope Korbin can do the job but if we have a spot and the cash, then a like for like for Jack should be the priority imo...

Another one I just thought of, who could be the big name player we may be signing is Roberts. He is out of favor at Brissy, no one has picked him up yet. He played centre for NSW last year, so he fits the big name category. We are in desperate need for a good centre and winger. Roberts can play both those positions. We lack speed. Roberts has more speed than Oxford Street (said Roberts). He does have a few flaws in his game, but he is a genuine strike weapon who can score from anywhere on the field. I know his defence is questionable at times and he is bit of a hog, but he would be an upgrade on Aitken, that's for sure.

I still think that Roberts will end up at Souths before June 30.

For me it is best we go for like for like when possible. At this point in time Saab is the only exceptional junior coming through that warrants consideration for first grade selection.

So 3 players required with Saab being one of them. The performance of Pearson on the right wing and Lomax at fullback over the next two rounds will assist with decisions however, if Saab, Pearson and Lomax end up being our back 3, then we are looking at one or two centres in our backline for 2020.

In the forwards Blacker seems to be the most obvious candidate. I think that we have within our midst enough props to do the job however, both Kerr and Timm need to be given more first grade experience in 2019 to be ready for 2020.

Millward needs to clear out the deadwood and replace them with internal promotions of Blacker and Saab and externally a couple of good first grade centres that is of course if the back 3 of Lomax, Saab and Pearson prove to be successful in their up-coming first grade placements.

A lot depends on who we let go from 30 and who we are looking at as DP players.
Ford should join the 30.
Blacker impact has been good but he needs to do it for longer, Need more games to judge him but at this stage still a DP
Saab is ahead of progress and is a chance of 30 but i think the club wont rush him. He is still filling out his body. Grew 2 inches in the off season has put on 4 kg but still needs to fill out. Going to be a solid boy.
Lovodua has a chance because of his utility value but I think atm he is too big for dummy half and not big enough for a FG back rower. Still has speed off the mark. Hard to believe he was our 20s half 2 years ago.
Lomax is hard to make a call on out injured half of last year and been out all this year. Club is looking to make him a dummy half. Should be back next week, needs a big back half of year.
Masters is a worry has not stepped up and I would think close to missing out.
Next DP in line would be Sauni-Esau and Ty Wishart. both cant play Flegg next year
Club is also looking at some of the SG boys but they can be signed to 20s first.
Edit May be unpopular call but I think unless Sailor is going to play in the halfs he should be let go.
