Are we better off if Simmo retires?

A fit Ross is an instant pick in any forward pack in the comp, I'd be suprised if he isnt starting over Taylor more often then not. Taylor after opposing forwards are starting to get a bit tired after 20-25 mins is a bloody scary sight to behold.

Nice work by the bunnies though, a front row combination Roy, Ross, Stuart and Taylor is pretty bloody impressive.

Naigama and Karawana would be on about 200k between them. Ellis is on 400k.

I wouldn't mind if simmo retired this year. He's on a good wage, I thought it was around 300k? That money could be spent buying decent a front rower!

I'd like to make a point. I'd rather we unload a couple players like Wes and Marvin, all those depth sort of players and sigh some quality.

I doubt Gareth Ellis would be on less than 200k a year when he can get 500k+ over there, I know he came here for a challenge but thats just ridiculous considering Nathan Smith is on 200k a year.
Cross has been a busted, total failure, and should be tapped on the shoulder. Simmo should be offered a position on the coaching staff, maybe the forwards coach or a role with the toyota cup team

Taylor runs wide like a back rower and rarely gets involved in the middle to do the hard yards. The kid has talent but he is lacking in the commitment to be a good front rower.

Ellis isn't on big money, and irrespective of what it is, even if he WAS on double the money than Naiqama/Karawana combined, I think it might be worth it considering that for double the money you get 4 times more out of a player ( probably 10 times more really )

Whatever money he is on - and its not massive - he was offered to the Knights for the same price and was told not interested thanks to Smith having doubts whether or not Ellis ' could make it in the NRL '.

$400k is Darren Lockyer Thurston $$$.

For me he would be on $250k at the most.

The cowboys were talking about extending thurstons contract and paying him 700k per season. Almost double what you are thinking. Lockyer would not be on a cent less than 500k per year.

For Ellis to come to Australia to play, he would be stupid to sign for 250k when he can make double that in England...

Speaking of Thurston, heard some pretty solid talk that the NZ Warriors are making a massive play for him.

Might be nothing, but its so far out of left field there just might be something to it...

Simmo's knees are shot which may explain why he doesn't play with the same vigor as he use to. I'm pretty sure he only trains later in the week because it takes him at least a few days for his knees to recover from the weekend. Anyway, he should be given the a proper send off at the end of the year. I don't think he can continue even if he wanted to.

I can't see Simmo playing on. He also looks very out of character on the field to me. It breaks me to see him end his career like this with injuries. He deserves another five years in the game.

I think (hope) Karawana is on a pretty minimal deal. Meh, I'm not a fan of his, but getting rid of him wouldn't contribute to the purchase of a quality player. Every club needs some cheap guys rounding out their top 25. Ditching someone like Karawana is only a good idea if there's a better alternative at a similar price.

Agreed.

He's on min wage blah blah blah.. Well 2 below avg players on min wage could equal one pretty solid player.

No it wouldn't the top 25 system the NRL has in place at the moment requires clubs to have 25 players contracted each year in the top tier salary cap so dumping two minimum wage players for a player on a larger salary would mean that we'd need to bring up another player so we'd be penalised for being over the cap. I hope I explained that properly.

Karawana and Wes are competing for the same spot, that of a utility on the bench. We don't need two utilities on the bench, its a waste.

The interchange needs another forward, Pato's the one as he can be a 2nd utility at a pinch.
