Are we getting ahead of ourselves?

There’s a certain upbeat vibe at the moment. You can feel it in here.

Our team is at the top of the table, we’re playing well and we’ve made some really good re-signings. And everyone here is positive and talking about the Grand Final and the trophy in 2009.

Yes, I feel all that too but I am also very nervous. It’s only half way through the season and there’s still a lot of footy to go. Are we getting ahead of ourselves?

I’ve tried to work out why I’m nervous. Is it the memory of 2005 and 2006 when we made it to the Preliminary Finals and then lost to the Tigers and Storm respectively? Is it the memory of last year when we won 7 (I think ) in a row then stumbled into the 8 only to be bundled out by Manly in the first week of the play-offs? Is this going to happen all over again?

Am I being too pessimistic or am I being realistic? Or don’t I have enough faith and belief? Or am I just a normal long term Dragons supporter haunted by the past?

I know we’ve got some different players. I know we’ve got Uncle Wayne but I’m still nervous. I’d love it if we went all the way this year. Can you guys and girls convince me that we can?

We lost to the Roosters before taking on Manly. We did win quite a few in a row during origin but the wins were kind of inflated.

This year we are playing much better football and are genuinely the best side in the comp at present. This is exciting. Many hope it continues all year.

Yes.

But I'm still going to book my seat at the Taj, in the hope that I can exercise the demons that still haunt me from that God-awful day in 1999...
Still think 2010 is the year.

its an oldy but a goody, lets just take one game at a time.

Yes, good advice BP. But it is hard to not look ahead.

I also thought that 2010 would be the year, that it would take that long for WB to weave his magic. But it seems to be happening much more quickly, getting all our hopes up.

I don't think we're getting ahead of ourselves, we haven't started the season in a flurry, we've just played consistent footy and won games on the back of it. We haven't peaked yet, every performance is growing. The brand of football we play is conducive to being competitive every week. Running into the finals it's great style of footy to play. Teams like the dogs and knights I feel may be peaking too early with the type of footy they play.

We have the mettle for finals footy this year, I don't think any Saints team in the last decade can say that.

I think that you’re suffering from mild depression
Stop looking for something to worry about
Enjoy the process. The growth of a new team from infancy to maturity
We are privileged to see a master create his masterpiece with new and exciting ingredients
We watch as those in whom we have had great faith, finally begin to achieve their individual potential
We’re 9 great wins and 3 very understandable losses
Those of us who set our expectations too high are all too forever dissatisfied. By looking toward a GF victory and nothing else and worrying about if we can achieve that goal we never get to smell the proverbial roses on the road to victory
Our great team enjoys the respect of all that see them every week
I’m digging it!

Yes, I don't even like talk of the finals, let alone the big one.

I understand we will play semi final footy, and a slim chance to play the GF, on current form. But, jeeeeeeesus I think that even thinking of the GF is ridiculous ATM. A week is a long time in footy let alone months.

Carpe diem.

imo

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, and today is a gift. That's why they call it the present

The fact is if we bring our A-game noone can match us. If we bring our B-game we will still be competitive.
Fact is that this year is ours to lose or win. It's in our hands and quite frankly I don't know how to deal with it. I really wish this year was over already.

That's debatable. We haven't brought our A-game yet and I doubt many teams have so far this season.

cronulla have been bringing their a-game last week. unfortunately for them, their a-game is worse than most club's c-games..

I agree with Big Pat. One game at a time.

On Grand Final day 1999, I sat with the dragon army and dared to dream. It became my worst nightmare.

It would be unusual for the vibe to be anything other than upbeat while we continue to win.

But i've always thought that the comp doesn't really start to get serious until the origin period is over. There are plenty of instances where sides have led the table early on and then faded at the business end of the season.

I'm confident that we won't fade, but you have to be realistic. It's only round 12. There's still 14 rounds to go. That's plenty of time for things to change around.

But the difference from this year to 2005/06 and the thing that gives me the most confidence is having Bennett.

He's not a naughty boy. He is the Messiah.

its quite amazing that we only need 4 more wins to make the finals, in saying that i dont think we can look to far ahead, we have some key games coming up which we should firstly worry about and 4-5 weeks out from the semis those games should be treated as do or die semi final games
