Haha, nothing makes me laugh more than indignant music snobs

They're the ARIA's guys. Of course the Australian Record Industry is going to nominate people who made lots of money and sold lots of singles. The majority of Australians couldn't care less if COG, Youth Group, or Yothu Yindi get awards, so why would a mainstream industry like the recording industry advertise them at a nationally broadcast awards ceremony?

Even though I'm a card-carrying indignant music snob, I agree with you.

ARIA is all about mooching off those with unit-shifting skills and having money fights in the office.

The APRA awards are a much better indication of the quality of the music rather the ARIA's - rewarding the sales/popularity of music bought/listened to by sheep that follow music companies publicity machines...

How do you get nominated for a "highest selling" award? You've either sold the most or you haven't, it's not like anyone can judge it subjectively. All you'd have to do to work out the winner is look at the sales figures....

We can but hope this nomination (and all his others) are just a way of getting him in one place so he can be executed. That song is one of the worst, most offensive, earworms ever produced anywhere.

I'd rather listen to the Macarena (or even Ratt).

I bet all you guys like Missy Higgins before she came to "mainstream" for you all.. Yeah.. you guys are cool.. you like music that some people dont know about.. The ARIA's are about what most AUSTRALIANS like.. not what you like. What is the defintion of a good song? It is all subjective. The ARIA's are trying to cover the majority of Australian taste.

While I agree, "Catch My Disease" is an annoying song, Cog are an awesome band and the fact that Evermore (while being my fav band) are from NZ, it does not mean the nominations are poor. Give it a break.. anyway here are my picks..

i don't have this issue as i'm too cool for radio, mtv
