Did make Gallop look somewhat stupid after his announcements in June last year.

The NRL met SA's government on Monday to voice a desire to play more games at Adelaide Oval, which is slated for a $530 million redevelopment by 2014.
"It is going to be one of the great stadiums," Gallop told reporters in Adelaide.
"We want to play games here.
"And we will certainly be talking to the government about ensuring that opportunity is still there for us in the next few years."

If it is true they have basically told him to shove off then it is not surprising that the NRL are going to put SA at the bottom of the priority list.

Seems a bit petty to me. Adelaide oval is a terrible place to watch League. That's why th Rams moved to Hindmarsh.
The local League comp is going well with two new teams and a stack of juniors.
A little spat with the government should have absolutely nothing to do with growing the game in SA.
Poor form in my opinion.

You guys have nfi

We've had at least our top 5 years ever for crowds with gallop there. Call him a stooge all you want but he produced results. From a numbers perspective you can't really fault him. We will miss him I promise you that

Crowds remain underwhelming. 2005 was great but we haven't topped it since. The under-selling of our media rights is the main reason we struggle to fund things. Gallop was the CEO during these deals. The way the last rights were rushed through was deplorable.

Removing Gallop removed the perception of a conflict of interest. He's had 10 years in the job anyway. Time to move on.

It's a massive tick for the ARLC.

hehe

Maybe

Brutus crowds across most codes have stagnated or gone backwards since the GFC in 2008. To keep them up around the 2005 levels is no mean feat. Look at what has happened to swans and s15 crowds

Can guarantee that the next few weeks will have the Daily terrorgraph trotting out sensational headlines like ,New COMP being mooted....SL war #2..Game in Crisis..blah blah.
With quotes such as An un named source close to one of the clubs..or ,we have obtained a secret document,or the classic WE will be able to reveal shortly.
It will only get worse the closer we are to signing the TV deal.
Will be interesting to see how things are after the deal is done.

Spoke to a former CRL board member the other day. Won't say names, but I asked him how he thinks the Commission will affect country footy. He told me that he is under the impression that they will not merge the CRL and NSWRL. Rather, not only will they keep it, they will attempt to implement the CRL structure across the rest of the country. (yes, he said country). I didn't get too far into it, but I am pretty sure he meant with the way the group's are set up.

He also said to me all this talk of country league getting weaker is not because of AFL, Union, etc etc. It's because times are changing. Economy, shift work, etc etc is what is keeping players away. Also the fear of getting injured and losing work is having an effect.

Crowds have been static relatively speaking and go backwards in terms of population growth. Maybe GFC has something to do with it or maybe we just have done nothing in terms of a strategy to grow them? Anybody account for the decent growth from 2004-05?

what do you call the massive membership drive of the past couple of years?

have your agenda all you like, but at least try and make it fit in with facts and reality. if you think there's been no effort to grow crowds, you're dreaming. i expect being isolated in Perth, you're really not the best person to comment on NRL marketing and presence aside from an area where there is no NRL team.

can never take you seriously when you bundle your opinions in with rubbish like that. it's like the guy that you listen to about government corruption and whanot, right up until he puts the tin foil hat on his head and hides under the table when a car with tinted windows drives by.

regardless of any of that, you like to double and triple dip with your complaining. any lack of ambition from the NRL in the past decade can be brought abck to TV money not being where it should have been. complain about that all you like, everything else is really just a symptom. Gallop did some dumb things. he was likely professionally and potentially personally hamstrung at times, too. he did also do some good in there at times.

A start.

Facts? Take a look at the FACTS posted above. In the last 7 years crowds have barely changed. That is the only fact you need to read to judge the Nrl's attempt to grow crowds.

Crowds have gone nowhere for the following reasons:
1. Hard to get to grounds / parking
2. Little/to no wet weather protection at grounds
3. Lack of infrastructure such as bars/pubs/clubs/restaurants around the grounds so people can make a night of it.

Until the ARLC sit down with a committed state government to address these issues (like previously in Victoria) crowds will continue to go nowhere!
