Around the Grounds

The hypocrisy is the most galling part. The elitist attitudes. I bet they love reading their names being put into print. I feel utter empathy and fear for any Polynesian men or women who have to hide their homosexuality for fear of the consequences. It is sickening. That said I have no doubt there are many Polynesians who are supportive of the pride movement. I hope they make their voice heard.
In a lot of Polynesian and Melanesian cultures the men with "homosexual traits" literally get treated like women and are made to do the traditional womens roles. They are totally barred from anything that they traditionally see as "mens business" etc

Its fairly archaic

I’m glad the whole Manly pride jersey thing has been raised on here, it’s had me pretty fired up this week.

The thing that bothers me the most about it is the players are making it about them. The jersey is about recognising part of our community yet the players decide they need to turn it into a thing about their right not to wear it. It’s not like they’ve even been asked to say anything about it. Wearing the jersey doesn’t mean you have to denounce your religion or give up your faith or anything like that.

Personally I’m not religious, but it’s like if I get invited to a friend’s wedding at a church. Would I boycott the wedding because it doesn’t fit my personal beliefs and views? No way! Because I know it’s about them, not about me. I’ll happily stand there in the church listening to the priest do his/her thing and I might even say amen when the time comes but the whole ceremony is about other people not about me and I can go home at the end of the day knowing I was there for them.

What if one of their teammates came out as gay? Would these players refuse to play with them? Would they refuse to be in the changing rooms with them? Like how far does this go?

Simply put, this is sort of like saying “I’m not coming to work today because I don’t like the uniform” and I’ve seen people trying to counter that with “they shouldn’t be forced to wear anything they don’t want to” well guess what, most workplaces have a uniform or some sort of dress code or guideline and if you don’t like it then see you later. If you work in a corporate office and turn up in shorts and singlet, bye-bye! If you’re in the military but disagree with the uniform, sorry you’re not longer serving your country. If you work at red rooster and don’t like to wear the shirt with a chicken logo on it because you’re scared of birds, you’re out on your arse! I really don’t see how playing professional sport is any different. When you sign on to play (and get paid ridiculous money to do it) you realise that you need to fall into line with not just the uniform but whatever the club wants to represent.

Homophobia is homophobia whether it’s religious in nature or not, and here in Australia in 2022 it should be completely unacceptable.

Geez Adam Elliott has been good since he announced he signed with us.

Making me look like a fool because I thought he was super average. He’s got plenty of football in him.

He's been consistently very good since moving to lock, which coincided with him signing with us. Probably would've had more suitors and a bit of an increased salary if he was still off-contract now. And in a team devoid of leaders I think he can help, he clearly gives a f**k.

Will be a good backup for Super Mann.

Would be great if we signed more players who make us look foolish for all the right reasons. Like a certain halfback at Concord. This is where you wish Brian Smith was still around. He always found the best in a player.

Man I'd love to have Connor Tracey at the club. He is all effort and does everything right. Waaaay to good to be a back up
Was excellent and safe tonight.

Nicho Hynes ices the game for the Sharks too. Geez we missed a good chance there because we wanted to hang onto Pearce.

Should add I know that's very easy to say in hindsight but why didn't we have the balls to make the decisions the Sharks did?

Wasn't Hynes in our system to begin with? Hopefully Parr can fix our junior system.

As of right now we rank as the worst attacking team, worst defensive team and worst for and against.

We have games against the Bulldogs, Tigers and Titans to finish our season. I imagine if we don't win any of those we'll be celebrating spoon #4.

Honestly, we deserve it.
