If KP plays strongly and gets overlooked at FB for Qld next season i can see him pulling the trigger and switching allegiance to NZ, if that is even possible. His treatment by Mal and the Roos selectors is disgraceful. It was all about humiliation.
Don't know all the eligibility details but he's only played for Aus in schoolboys and 9s right? His Australia allegiance is mostly related to him wanting to play for QLD. I reckon if that wasn't an issue, and it probably won't be in the future, he'd be playing for QLD & NZ. I feel like he's avoided completely committing to Aus because he wants to play for NZ but can't because of QLD. Not the first time this has come up.

Ponga was wrongly advised on the process of becoming unavailable for selection for Australia. Mal and the selectors did nothing wrong by not selecting him for the Kangaroos, they just didn’t see him as one of the best options.
