It's crazy how a 21 year old has a playing style like late career Shaun Johnson, after he lost a lot of his pace. The really top drawer deception in ball playing is usually the last thing talented young halves figure out - most of the ones who burst onto the scene young do so mostly because of an elite running or kicking game, elite broken play ability, etc - and he's just naturally got it. The way he'll run something, see the way the defence reacts, then come back at that same edge with a variation to take advantage of what that defender did last time: that's so advanced for his age. I would say Cleary didn't really master this stuff till about 2022-23.
If he can figure out a way to threaten with his running game a bit more (doesn't look to have elite acceleration or change of direction so it won't be easy), he could definitely become the best half in the game over the next decade.
