3 can't make up for the other 12...

By the way, Lote, Wendall and Mat are Union players and have been for 5 years.

So three so called superior league players can't carve up in union. Just face the facts if they were so much better, they would be scoring bucket loads of tries, this is not the case though.

Latham is better than the ex league players.

Slow Union news day hey?

Every couple of months, to disrupt Leagues great publicity, Union come out and declare they're going to buy this and that, and everytime it is mentioned, a thread is made in this forum.

People, don't worry about that, same old Union tripe that we've come to expect, and what a coincidence, it happens to come out in a League finals week, funny that.

ARU RIP

PS they can take Wing, he such a predictable player now, he'd fit right into Union.

ARU dismisses league poaching speculation

Australian Rugby Union (ARU) chief executive Gary Flowers says the ARU is not actively pursuing rugby league players to boost its playing depth.

Mr Flowers issued a statement saying that the ARU has not offered contracts nor instigated discussion with any leading rugby league players.

St George-Illawarra Test centre Mark Gasnier has been linked with a switch to union.

"It is important for people to know that we are not running around looking for rugby league players," Mr Flowers said.

"We were approached by Mark Gasnier's management and asked to meet with him, which we have done.

"We have always said that if a player from any code has a genuine interest in playing rugby union, we are happy to talk to them.

"In Mark's case, we have had a meeting to discuss his potential in the game but at no stage have we discussed dollars, contracts or timetables.

"Both parties have gone away to assess the options and we may or may not talk again.

"Any mention of what sort of salary he might attract, what position he would be best suited to or which new Super 14 team he might play for is entirely speculative."

The Wallabies have plundered the ranks of rugby league in recent years with the signings of backs Mat Rogers, Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuqiri, who have all gone on to play international rugby.

Which ones are skinny.

The Wallabies have one of the biggest backlines in the game. Apart from Giteau and Lakham....they are all around the 100kg mark.

100kg isn't that much these days, look at most sides backlines in the NRL, and i think you'll find a majority of them are up in the mid to late 90's.

After targeting Gasnier, Johns, Tahu, Anasta, Lockyer, Kennedy and Bowen, they ended up with Cross and Schifcoske.

If they target Inglis, Hayne and Wing, they'll wind up with Adam Perry and Scott Minto.

Gasnier, Johns and Anasta approached the ARU, through their managers. Lockyer and Bowen? Sorry, no interest from the ARU at any stage.

Ben Kennedy played first grade rugby for Manly before switching to league. Other than that, no interest.

Tahu? Who he?

Short memory, Woods99. The ARU had a similar article to today's a year or two back which included a "shopping list" with funds from the RUWC03. All of the players I mentioned, plus a dozen more, were on it.

the ARU are a disgrace if this is true... they harp on about how they wish they had the depth that the all blacks have and they go and chase league players.. granted Inglis and Hayne would be bloody handy in Rugby but they have some bloody talented young kids coming through at the moment. i watched the u19 RWC afew months back and for the 1st time in awhile i was genuinely thinking they have some talented kids coming through. its all good though... trust the ARU to f*ck theyre own kids coming through for the sake of keeping theyre sinking ship "The S.S Wobblie" afloat.

Every match I've seen with Rogers or Tuquiri has had just that, when they get the ball, they carve them up. The problem isn't that they did it when they got it, the problem is that they rarely got the ball.

Who?

Surely you mean Mark Latham, and he retired from politics. I don't think he played Union.

The ARU doesn't write articles, journalists do. Like the journalists who wrote the big story "Rogers goes back to league". Yep, back to league in 2008. What a scoop. Don't believe everything that you read in the papers.
