Who in their right mind would leave the sunshine of Australia for the dreary weather of England. Not even footy is worth that

I can see you've done a lot of travelling  .

I've been to 17 countries in the past 2 years and the only way I could have done that is to live and work UK.

It sure beat's the hell out of spending 2 weekends in the caravan park at forster for your holidays.

Australia is great, but my point is that there are hundred's of other places out there that are equally as fantastic in completly different ways.

I pitty narrow minded people like you who will never experience this.

Firstly its amazing how many Sharks fans or people from the Shire end up in London and the UK. I was over there last year and have to disagree on you giving a low rating to British League. I know technically its not quite as good as the NRL, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching Leeds. The style of footy was ok, and the atmosphere at Headingly with only 10000 people was better than anything I've experienced at a game in Australia. The only thing that would come close for atmosphere is a couple of finals series games Cronulla have played in. I'd take the South stand at a Leeds game going off, over any other venue I've been to to watch sport. Admittadly I didn't get to a premiership game. With tickets costing more than a days wages and i was desperately trying to save to go travelling again, I turned down Leeds United. Glad I did to, as it was reportadly a shocking game I was considering going to. I did make it to Bradford City vs Wolves, but the atmos had nothing on a Leeds Rhinos game.

Overall i thought Leeds was a lovely place to live and I wouldn't mind living there off and on in short bursts to watch some Super League and the autumn internations. However nothing beats the Shire.

I will probably go to London when I finish my degree to try and earn the mega bucks on offer. Although the prospects of travel based out of Aus have improved greatly in the last year. If I had done my trip through Central and South America to the UK and Europe this year instead of last, I think it would be around 20% cheaper thanks to our booming Aussie dollar.

I wasn't saying that the UK's better than Oz (or the shire), I was just telling Tidus Raider that there was more to the world than just the Aussie Sunshine.

I'm lso sure all the league games were not as boring as the one's I went to. I just lucked out. The final's had some decent atmosphere by the look of the TV.

i'm goin to england for a gap year in a couple of years and can't wait. the london broncos look alright.

I'll probably get slaughtered for saying this on a RL forum, but scrap the League in the UK and go to a few Premiership matches. The atmosphere fantastic, like nothing Ive experienced at any other live sport's events (and I hated soccer before coming over here).

Or come up north to watch your league, don't just stay in London.

Anyhoo, on the whys and wherefores of internationals being played over here it boils down to money. Gate receipts are shared between the two bodies and the exchange rate is such that any competition played in the UK is almost automatically more profitable than those played in Ockeralia.

I wish they'd knock it on the head though and play some over there. It's nice to be able to go to them, especially all the WCC games that are played here, but I want a bit of variety. Lions tours to Austraia only happened when I was a kid and couldn't go. I earn money now and could probably scrape the cash together given a couple of year's notice to bez round Oz catching as many games as I can. Will they do it? Will they buggery.

Exactly the same for me mate. Me and my mum talked going to Oz for the Ashes tour all the time when I was growing up. We were basically waiting for me to leave home, get a job and earn enough cash to go. With me out of the house my mum would also be able to save enough cash. Now we can both afford it, the option seems no longer available to us. :(

I saw the opening of the 2000 Super League between St Helens and Bradford at Knowsley Road - great atmosphere, coldest night I've ever experienced. I remember the cheer girls dancing to Tina Turner songs wearing next to nothing. How they survived, I do not know.

They are very passionate supporters over there.

I had to register to ask you this :D - which footy games have you been to that were so great because it honestly doesn't compare to a quality atmosphere at a RL game?? Far too many non-passionate fans in footy these days.

I've been to a three Grand Finals now at Mold Trafford, and every time the stewards have said how fantastic the atmosphere is, and miles better than any footy game they've stewarded at.

Just hope that all the rugby grounds don't become all-seaters, cause you just can't beat terracing - good on Bratford that they didn't all seat their stadium cause Odsal is an ace ground.

At this year's GF when I went into the stadium from the concourse I spotted a sign at the bottom of the steps and stopped to read it. It said something along the lines of "damages to our shutters will be paid for". The steward at the top clocked me and said not to bother, that was for the round ball lot.

They are so not used to serving alcohol in there too. When I asked for a pint and half of lager they said they'd have to do it in two glasses cos the biggest they had were pint glasses. I had to ask the guy next to me if she really did just say that.

I've opened a can of worms here. Welcome __y__. Good to have you here.

My last league and Football matches were seen 1 week apart about 5-6 weeks ago.
On the 1st week I went and watched Fulham v Man City at QPR, Sell out crowd (only about 18,000) and a fantastic game ending in a last minute goal by City to snatch a 2-2 draw. Crowd singing and on there feet most of the game.
And the following week I went to Brentford to watch London Bronco's get thumped by Bradford, there were about 7,000 people there and the game was very slow indeed.

Like I said previously I know that there are exception's to this trend i.e Up North the league has a huge following. however my overall opinion is that in the Uk (overall), Football (Soccer) is more exciting from a spectator's point of view than League.

Note: I'd still never play the silly game.

I think you've got yourself a tad mixed up. I agree that the atmosphere big premiership games can be electric (what do you expect from crowds upwards of 30k?). But the game itself is certainly nowhere near as exciting to watch as a game of RL. Most football matches are pretty dull. Occassionally you get an exciting one. Most RL matches are exciting, occassionally you get a dull one. TBH I couldn't care less how much noise the crowd's making if there's b*gger all goinging on on the pitch.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree, Ive taken us off the subject here.
