I've done it once before too. That one played out a little better as the passion had gone out of our relationship and we had a three week 'breakup tour' to soften the blow.

This one is more of an airport farewell on a workday kind of thing.

Last time around it was... Fine. Despite not ever being mad about one another, we cared about and for each other. She was my best friend, and doing it that way allowed her to be for longer. She and I are still close.

This time around? It's been a lot more tumultuous. Days of eying the calendar and wishing it'd hurry up inter-mixed with days where I realise how fleeting time is. A time draws closer (in both cases) there's nostalgia and genuine affection inter-mingling to heighten the urgency and 'tragedy' of it.

It builds to a crescendo and then there's a vacuum of relief and enotional exhaustion that I've found is best filled with alcohol, video games, and escapism.

All things are better in time. I opt to extend the enjoyment knowing it'll also extend and heighten the sadness of a goodbye.

Serious post, while it's not a "love relationship" in the sense of partners I met a friend of my step-brother the other day. Like me, the kid is being raised by any abusive parent. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the kid when I saw him, knowing what's been through it hit me. The kid was battling it though...gave him a bit of advice that hopefully helped him.
