Lucky for ledecky athletes from the developed world dont have this accusation thrown around at them
Wow she's lose by over a lap, very impressive.

Her 800m world record is over 30 seconds slower than the men's. She is absolutely not competitive in men's events. And she is one of the the biggest freaks in women's sport.

Pretty much proves how much of an advantage testosterone is, no?

You said it would be comical. She would be competitive at nationals and would be just a cut below the elite.

She would destroy 99.9 percent of men over 1500m

Whose fault was that one America?!?! What a run by the Japanese!

So happy to see Bolt go out with a huge smile on his face. He looked like he was unhappy with his 200 performance, so good that he went out on a high note

Just like Phelps last race there's a bit of sadness that we will never see him again, and highly unlikely we will see the likes of them again

I didn't think he was unhappy. He seemed pretty happy still.

Remember the track was wet.

If it'd have been dry he'd have went faster.

If you think not even being able to make the team is competitive, then I guess we have a different opinion on what would make a woman competing against men impressive.

You are also picking a rich first world sport. One which the best athletes in the world don't even consider competing in. A sport that is still so behind track and field in ts development that people regularly break world records by seconds, some of them in their teens. You will never, EVER, see a world record in track broken by an underdeveloped youth athlete

Suck it USA!
Might dominate in the swimming but pretty mediocre in the athletics and it looks to stay that way too!
Thank goodness for Olympic sprinting to bring the yankies back down to earth!

The question shouldnt be is testosterone an advantage. The question should really be so what ?

What if it turns out that ledecky has a genetic condition that makes her a better swimmer. Is that fair enough ?

He may have went faster, but he would not have even approached his Olympic record. He really wanted to set a record for the 200, mentioned it quite a bit in interviews leading up to the games and that race.

He got over it after a minute or 2, but he was very clearly upset with his time after crossing the line.

So the argument is there shouldn't be women's sports?

What is your restriction on allowing someone to compete as a woman if not gender testing or testosterone level (both of which disqualified Caster until they were dropped)?

Maybe he was upset for 30secs but he seemed pretty happy to me.

Good point.
And it seems like Ledecky doesn't actually get much suspicion even though she has obliterated world records, some of those set by doped up east germans!!

Nothing can bring them down.

The coverage here can't help but mention Michael Phelps as being above Bolt. Hell a lot of them even try talking up bloody Ashton Eaton as being the best athlete In track and field!

Women have varying rates of testosterone and the gap isnt as large at the elite level according to this guy

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/29446276

Peter Sonksen is a professor of endocrinology (the study of hormones) at St Thomas' Hospital in London. It was his research for the IOC that eventually led to the development of an anti-doping test for Human Growth Hormone, but he is far from impressed with its work on testosterone.

"They have got it completely wrong with this idiotic rule," Sonksen told me.

"This rule is unfair, gross and unscientific. It is clear discrimination."
Sonksen's main objection to the 10 nmol/L threshold is that the research he did for his HGH study found 16% of his male athletes had lower than expected testosterone, whereas 13% of his female athletes had high levels of testosterone "with complete overlap between the sexes".

In other words, the gap that exists for testosterone between men and women in the general population does not exist among elite athletes.

Haha and now the Yanks have even lost their bronze for a dodgy change..... Although TBH it looks a pretty tough call.

Still can't get over that run by the Japanese. Just goes to show how important quick changes are as they barely rate at all in the individual event

Please answer my question, Pete.

What test outside of gender and testosterone levels would you implement to judge who can compete in women's sports?
