Australian Referee Ashley Klien has been appointed as the referee of the grand final after being name Referee of the Year at the Awards night.

Ash began refereeing in the Parramatta District and had a few years in Junior Reps before moving to England. This is some refereeing talent we should get back for the NRL.

COngrats Ash!

I'd imagine Ashley is happy enough with his move to England? He wouldn't necessarily have come through the ranks and politics to an NRL grand final just yet, so career-wise he's doing OK for himself.

Would be hard for him to kick-start his international ref career yet though - as an Aussie working in England he could probably be considered not neutral enough for any Tri-Nations games. 2008 World Cup duty perhaps?

Lol he has been over there for five years now, so he has lost his aussie accent, but at least he doesn't sound like a soccer referee with the high pitch whistle.
