It’s like the Bears Storm players, the Bears name their team on Tuesday arvo, it never has any Storm contracted players named, then they announce their team one hour before kick off, it has all the Storm players not used by Melbourne named.
Storm players who have been named 18th man but not used are almost always there unless they are under Brisbane Tigers or Sunshine Coast Falcons banner.
Some players who have only played 10 mins of the NRL game that week are still able to play as well.

Yep and if you were going to Auckland or Newcastle etc then Storm guys wouldn't play because of extra travel

From what I heard. Storm guys don't train with the QCup teams, They fly in on game day. Play and fly home.

They aren't flying to PNG, Mackay etc either. So you are looking at a couple of hours, Not sure that works with Perth.

So getting the local levels good enough is the challenge and needed to go with the Bears side of it

So I guess storm bringing in players from further away than north Sydney?! Sunshine coast 2 & a half hours from Melbourne. Perth to Sydney 4 hours. About an hour & half difference.

The Bears were lucky mostly in 2024 as the Storm played plenty of their games on Thursdays and Fridays with some on Saturdays, hardly any on Sundays and the Bears played the majority of their games on Sundays, it was different for the Brisbane Tigers and Sunshine Coast Falcons as they played a lot of Saturday games.

Good to see I’m not the only one asking that question;

“It begs the question: Did V’Landys muck it up here a little trying to get more cash squeezed?”

I’m sure vlad will be saved by labor getting re-elected but geez he’s putting a lot at risk just because he didn’t like the western bears bid chairman.

Selecting bid with dubious backing would be risky. Can always slot in east tigers or jets.

Think it’s a bit different re Storm though as there’s only a couple isn’t there?
For WA Bears it will be around 8–10 players potentially? I guess they could fly over those players not in the starting 18 on a friday, play for NS saturday and fly back to Perth Sunday but then they’d need some time off so wouldnt be back training with 1st team until weds and thurs then do it all again.
logistically that sounds a nightmare!

only other option would be to base the 10 WA Bears or so players in NS and not have them train with the WA Bears first team 20 players but not sure that really works either?

it’s also the time difference as much as travel distance. It literally takes all day to get to Sydney during daylight saving time of year. Currently I leave home at 8.30am wast , on plane at 10, land in sydney 5-5.30pm aedt and am at hotel for 6.30pm.
8-10? There isn’t even 10 quality west Aussie players in the cup systems atm. qld might have 2 and nsw might have 2. this shouldn’t be a quota set up where there is a requirement to have x amount of west Aussies in bears line up just because. the aim of sport is to win and if ya start bringing in bums only because of where they’re from and that aren’t up to it then you’re on a hiding to nothing and won’t ever progress either the club or the individuals.

Nothing like a little confirmation bias lol

the article literally says the journo doesn’t know what the Libs position is, Wb reads it that it confirms what he believes.
says confirmed biased yet you cream your pants over below

this banana just gets more and more dopey by the day. whatever suits his agenda he will quote twenty times over or highlight it to no end but when the inevitable truth comes out and he is proven wrong yet again he side steps his incorrectness greater than prime willie tonga.

Great idea. A WA team that has linked with a Sydney club should play in Queensland. I assume their coaching staff will be based in Tasmania and their equipment stored in Adelaide?
pretty sure someone in here already said there’s a couple q cup junior sides that have programs that bring in west aussies. So what’s the difference?

ah I get it Wb posted and you needed to drop everything ya doing and reply to him like the obsessed loser you are. Alwaysloser

It’s still not exactly the most salubrious end of town, and not close to where a rich sportsperson would be living.
Nor does it need to be. It's 20 mins to north beach so it's not like it's in Mandurah or Yanchep.
If they choose Bold park, some players may choose suburbs to live in a suburb that is more than 20 mins away. They all won't live in the same suburb.

Yes flying across timezones is far from the same as a flight up. Not to mention every Storm player doesn't do that every week

Yeah, Perth is behind so that's a plus.

How so?

The 4 hour flight becomes a 6 or 7 hour flight, That takes it out of normal people. An athlete that is expected to fly back and train is going to at a huge disadvantage so the plan would be to limit that

it’s irrelevant chat in 2025

athlete would fly week before the game and stay in the region for 2-4 week blocks or as required. if they get called up to nrl squad then they fly back sooner or chances are might be an away nrl game and they’ll already be in Sydney which is also closer to Melbourne Brisbane Gold Coast Auckland Canberra Newcastle and Townsville should the away game not be in Sydney.

To save costs a few pride boys drive to Townsville and back which is like 4 hours each way and some cutters boys drive to Townsville and back which is 4 and a half hours each way.

I don’t suspect that they would fly over for just one game and fly back after.

Why are they expected to fly back straight away?!

That was another reason the Storm linked with the Bears as a lot of players preferred staying in Sydney than Brisbane.
I feel it is a good idea to be linked with a side in both competitions e.g. the NSW Cup and the QLD Cup.
Having a link to two sides in the one comp is a bit of overkill imo.

Of course but there’s a hell of a lot more top suburbs 20mins from bold park than there is ballajura lol. Good luck getting to ballajurra in 20 mins from coast In a morning. Mind you they’ve promised to sort out erindale rd junction so that will help

not to mention the heat out there for training in compared to the coastal strip.
it’s just a poor choice for location, imo

Someone in the fulltime squad isn't going to train fulltime?

No coincidence that dolphins had Redcliffe, PNG the hunters and of course Perth the bears. Probably a big reason Vlandys wanted bears attached. Gives them a base to hit ground running. Some trying to spin it into a negative.
