Aust V World XIII - Tsunami appeal

I saw last night that the Yawnion brigade are talking about a Nth V Sthn hemisphere clash to support the appeal.
I know it would never happen, but how good would a Kangaroos V Rest of the world game be. I am sure in a town like Brisbane who have been starved of test footy, that this would get strong support. I reckon a proper world XIII, as opposed to the last one that the Kangaroos played during the SL war, would be a cracker.
Plenty of real stars to pick from including SBW, Stu Fielden, Morley, Ruben Wiki, Martin Gleeson, Keith Senior, the Volcano, Brent Kite (Tonga), Marcus Bai (PNG), Neville Costigan (PNG), maybe throw in Ian Blake to represent USA, Robert whatshisname from Russia, Lee Briers (Wales) a player each from France, Ireland and Scotland, and a few more Islanders representing Fiji, Cook Islands (maybe Matt Rua) and you could certainly create a team that would stir up a bit of interest, and possibly really take it to a Kangaroo team.

Brisbane are getting the ANZAC test..

If the Rest of the World had a player from each nation...that would be great!

Thats a good idea too but i just wish we had've beaten the Union brigade to getting a game on between the 2 hemispheres, that would've been great. They will once again get great publicity out of it.
For example:

Richard Horne
Lesley Vainikolo
Jamie Lyon
Martin Gleeson
Keith Senior
Danny McGuire
Mark McLInden
Paul Sculthorpe
Ali Lauititi
Djamel Fakir
Jerry Seu Seu
Kieron Cunningham
Stuart Fielden
res. Solomona, Hape, Fozzard, Farrell up against a Southern Hemisphere team made up mainly of Aussies and Kiwis/Islanders but with a PNG player in as well.

Play it at stadium Australia. I'd have it as Aus vs rest of the world. I think the Kiwi and Pom players would compliment each other. It would be awesome, and as it would be charity, the media would treat it well.

Although the match would be in the spirit of charity, we need to remember that Australia would almost definitely win it. If Australia can defeat the rest of the world, it doesn't say much for the quality of international competition.

Make it ANZACs vs. Rest of the World, play it in April, and it'll be a success. The best of Australia and New Zealand, pitted against stars from assorted other nations.

what about Nate Smith from the USA on the wing?
He would go very well in esteemed company.
And could go back to the USA and pass on some training tips to his team mates etc after spending a week with some of the best players in the world.

How do you get W Tonga in a rest of the world team when he played for Australia?
Rest of the side looks to be pretty good.

You missed my point, rugged. If it's Australia thumping a Rest of the World side, it only emphasises the already held belief that Australia are the only decent side- and that everyone else playing is just an 'also ran'.

If it's a novelty ANZAC side, it's entirely different. The same is alreayd being fretted over in cricket circles with regard to Australia playing Rest of the World sides later in the year. If Australia dominate all comers, it won't say a lot for the quality of the world game.

But I don't think Australia would dominate the combination of the rest of the world. If you do then you've got not a lot of confidence in the rest of the world.

Is it that obvious? :p

It doesn't need to be a domination. If Australia won by eight against a side comprising the best players from everywhere else, it would basically say that Australia is unarguably the best. It would be different if we lost matches every now and then (more than one every year or two), like Australia in the cricket, but in league it would just be fodder for the anti-league press.

The obvious point of facing reality as opposed to potential is that Rugby is very likely going to play a NH vs SH match at TELSTRA and TWICKERS and league is most unlikely to play OZ vs anyone worth playinganywhere int the forseeable future.     #-o #-o .

So you can predict the future
Whether it happens or not is debatable, the NRL has already contributed $100,000 towrads the appeal, the Roosters players alone have racked up $15,000,and expect more via the clubs NRL games. Its just that the NRL has already made their contribution well before any planned NH v SH union match or sevens match.Just like the appointment of a woman to the board the NRL a step ahead of the others.

What a waste of time. I came into 2 threads just to see the dim one's usual quote and laughing faces.

When the Asia vs. Rest of the World match aired, the total donations from the NRL and its clubs stood at $300,000. That's a match for what AFL had donated at the time. I didn't hear anything from Union.
