Austin in the Backrow

It's not too far off that Moses will lock down the 6 jersey and this means that Austin will be on the bench for a while (bar injury)

However, if he made a move to the back row then he would be a bloody perfect bench utility (can play halves, hooker or back row). He has experience here but I'm unsure if he was any good or not.

What are people's thoughts on this?

f**k if Blake got moved into the back row I would blow a mother f**king gasket. He is exactly what we DON'T need as a backrower. Bad at defense, erratic and runs sideways. Imagine putting Austin next to Brooks in the defensive line, we would leak points like a prostitute's loose pussy.

Ridiculous. Not a backrower.
Kind of player who will never cement a first grade spot.
Talented....but.....
Wilderness and journeyman tag await Austin.
I mean he cant usurp Anasta....

I reckon start Anasta at pivot with Austin and Sironen in the backrow and have them all rotate between the halves and backrow throughout the match.

I would move Moses into centre, to avoid him being in the centre of the field. Ease him into first grade on the edges.

I'd then have a backrow of Austin, Sironen and Lawrence, with Anasta at 5/8. Every 15 minutes, one of Austin, Siro & Lawrence would play 5/8, while Anasta moved to fullback, with Teddy swapping into prop for Woods who would be playing lock.

This way we would bamboozle our opponents and spruce up our attack! Someone phone Potter!

terrible idea imo.. we've had success playing 4 big guys on the bench and as soon as gavet is fit, he should slip right in.

i reckon austin is in there to keep anasta honest and help us out during the origin period without farah. in a month, i think it will either be anasta or austin in the 17. i have fears it will be anasta unfortunately.

i dont rate austin much. he's 100% heart but lacks the passing skills to be a playmaker, the size to be a forward and the tackling ability to be a hooker. he's a fill in and that's probably it.

I think Austin is a good player but at this point I think that this is pretty accurate.

Still he is a better option than Anasta right now and maybe he will look better if he comes some consistent time at 6.

Everyone makes fair points.

Given our history with injuries I just think its vital that we have a forward utility on the bench. Halutau would be my first preference

I think Halatau is the best bench option as well however I don't mind 4 big forwards on the bench.

Surely you jest

Pretty much, but what's not a joke is the point that BrotherJim brings up. Austin is wasted on the bench. He should be first choice for the #6 jersey. He looks a hell of a lot more dangerous with the ball in hand than Anasta and he's physically up to NRL level, unlike Moses. I agree that he shouldn't be playing back row, but if we can't find a spot for him in the run on side after Origin, we should do the right thing by him and let go to another club.
