australia don't want to host GB

maybe we didn't rate australia when GB went on a similar run from the 20s to 60s..

swings and roundabouts pal

No offence, but "swings and round abouts" isn't how I'd describe almost 60 years of Kangaroos domination... Sure, England dominated in the days before colour TV, but you need to be able to at least remember a time when your opponents were strong to take them seriously.

The sad fact is that as a business UK Rugby League has been run poorly and seems is utterly irrelevant in England, being completely dominated by soccer and even Union to an extent. If you guys were able to grow the game beyond the M62 corridor and inflict some big defeats on Australia, then the international game would be in much better shape. But sadly it seems to be all soccer in the big cities in the UK, with League only getting a minor look in smaller towns and that's a problem.

yeah yeah its all our fault....

ps our m62 corridor is no different to your east coast corridor,we have outposts in london & the south of france...just like your outposts in melbourne & new zealand....swings and roundabouts dickhead..

and beating us for the best part of 45 years has nothing to do with you not wanting to play us....i mean you could have played 3 tests against NZ..but no you just don't want anyone to play next year,we can't even play the kiwis next year either cos your RLPA have effectively banned all the nations down under from playing in 2015....

but yeah keep believing its all our fault you ignorant tw@

Haha what, how are they in any way similar?

The East Coast of Australia has our oldest/most famous city, our biggest city, our national capital, and the majority of the nation's population.

Wow.. way to get personal. So calling me a "dickhead" is what you use instead of an argument is it? Clever. Perhaps it's people like you that are killing the game in the UK - the best idea you have is to call other people names.

I'm simply stating the facts, and the facts are that Rugby League has been significantly more successful in Australia than it has been in England.

Sure, the East coast is where League dominates in Australia, but you're living in lala land if you think that's no different to League being trapped in the M62 corridor in the UK.

Tell me what major city in England has Rugby League as its favourite sport? Are there any with a population over 1 million? I mean, you've got places like St Helens, Leeds, Bradford and Wigan, but altogether they still have less people than Brisbane, let alone Sydney.

And your outpost in London is like the Melbourne Storm is it? Do you honestly believe that? The Melbourne storm had an average crowd above 16,000 people last year - that's better than pretty well any Club in the Super League, let alone the London Broncos, which rarely crack 5,000 in spite of being in a city with more people than all of New South Wales.

Look mate, I personally would love to see more games against England and for the Lions to come down here and for more tests in general (I even wrote an article on why we should have a proper Tri Nations like the former Union model), but something is seriously wrong with the game over there and it's just ridiculous that you would try to pretend otherwise.

To be fair, the game has just won a 200 million pound TV deal over 5 years, which isn't bad (even if it's not quite in the NRL's ballpark), so there are some promising signs. But they really need to do something about London, because that is one massive market for them only to be averaging crowds below 10k and often not getting 5k...

If the NRL can make the Storm work in Melbourne, then surely the Super League can get Londoners to take to the ESL... I know it's a fagball town, but f**k me, there are 8 million people in that city! Surely you can carve out some sort of niche.

You're mistaken about that Spud. In terms of national importance, Yorkshire and Lancashire are not equivalent to the Aussies' east coast corridor. They're more equivalent to South Australia and Western Australia. If there was a regional sport in Australia concentrated in SA and WA, it would likely struggle for national recognition, players, sponsors, etc. like RL does in the UK.

The issue here is that the International body should be doing a shitload more than they currently do.

Leaving the running of international footy up to essentially two countries will never work.

As evidenced by the fact that it hasn't worked thus far.

I think this is a bit of a chicken and egg problem here. In rugby the IRB does of course oversee a lot of stuff, but in reality a lot is driven by individual countries. The Rugby World Cup was actually an initiative by the Australian and NZ Unions that was actually OPPOSED by the IRB, for instance.

The point is that an international body can be useful, but at the same time it requires a critical mass of relatively large and well funded national unions to support and sometimes even drive it.

Yes, but in RL, each country is obviously focussed on self interest & improving/growing the game locally, not internationally.

England & Australia can bitch about the other not pulling their weight til the cows come home. But it shouldn't be their sole responsibiliy.

Having the International game controlled by practically 2 countries is never going to lead to a growing & competitive world game

england (RFL) have done it by proxy through the RLEF

all 99% of us asked is for australia to do they same via the RLIF or a RL'pacific'F

we need the RLEF & RLPF to be the bodies that do the day to day work....the RLIF only really needs to be a board that sits 3-4 times a year to sign off on stuff
