Cancelled my preorder the moment I read this. I'm not putting up with this shit, not in the year 2014. When we aren't being f**ked in the left ear with local pricing, we're being f**ked in the right ear by publishers treating us like we aren't worth shit.

No big loss for me really. I have plenty of other games to devote my time and money to that won't seek to make me feel inferior.

Singapore, a nation of 5.3m people, gets given preferential treatment over Australia.
Well done Micro$oft.

But I thought Microsoft had the power of the cloud. Proof it's just all hyperbole.

The game looked awesome when it was first shown. My enthusiasm for it has significantly wavered since. It was probably going to be the tipping point for me to get an Xbox One. Now since it's only 720p, most of the multiplayer consists of NPC cannon fodder and the textures look last gen... I'll probably end up getting it on my 360 instead, and wait for the inevitable console price drop.

Yeah the game went from a Day 1 purchase (on PC) to a wait and see for me. Am interested to try out the Beta to see what the pings will be like.

Do the servers actually have to be located in Australia? Surely they could find a way to have a tonne of cloud servers dedicated to Australia which would perform as good as if not better then dedicated servers. They would be cheaper too.

Or they could talk to Amazon, who are already doing incredible things through AWS.

The further a server is away from a client, the higher the latency.

It has nothing to do with how fantastic and fast the servers may be, you can't speed up the copper and the fiber that transmits the data.

Xbox Live runs on Azure, which is a pretty solid competitor against AWS. PSN runs on OpenStack which again is a really solid cloud provider. MS have 300,000 servers for Xbox One, finding the servers is not the problem... It just simply isn't a priority for a niche market, even if Australia is one of the biggest owners of xbox per capita in the world.

This sort of mentality is quite a concern in terms of Microsoft's entire pitch for this generation however. They were basically saying that the cloud will increase performance up to 3 times for the devices... Yet they aren't willing to provide dedicated servers for their biggest launch window game to a given region. How on earth do they expect to increase performance with that sort of mentality? It was all bullshit anyway, but they're not exactly adhering well to their mission statement already.

Fair enough. We've been looking at it on an Enterprise level but the traffic is no where near the level required for XBL. Plus the latency isn't really an issue either as half our workforce is in India.

Latency for what I'm assuming is a web portal / intranet, is a vastly different proposition to gaming.

A ping of 100 on a webpage is negligible to your average user in a browser. A ping of 100 versus 20 or 30 is massive in a game. Data volume is more important in a web browsing context, latency is much more important in gaming context. The data itself that is transmitted is only packets carrying a payload of 10 or 20kb of data in most cases, most web pages in comparison around probably around 100kb+

PC will most likely be dedicated servers rather than the shithole console servers. The shitstorm kicked up over modern warfare 2 servers was enormous. They won't be doing that again.

Is it really that hard to hire out some racks in an Australian datacenter?

Surely it's worth it for games like this.

I think the PC version is also using the Azure servers so it'll be in the same boat as the console version.

I read somewhere that Microsoft will have Azure severs up in Australia by the end of the year, although not sure how reliable that is. Even then, that's still ages away.

Australia And New Zealand To Get Titanfall Servers, Located In Sydney
MARK SERRELS YESTERDAY 4:49 PM Share 487 Discuss 57 Bookmark

Vince Zampella, from Respawn has just stated on Twitter that Australia and New Zealand will be getting servers for Titanfall. He is claiming they will be up and running by tomorrow.

Zampella just tweeted the following…

Aussie servers coming online, starting Friday morning and building capacity each day! Combined EA/MS/Respawn effort to make it happen!
Zampella also just confirmed the servers would be located in Sydney.

Considering the fact we thought we’d have to wait until Microsoft set up its Azure Centres, this is a pretty fast turnaround and great news for all those who picked up Titanfall at launch. It looks as though Respawn has put together a different solution for Australian gamers in the meantime.

Information regarding how this is all going to work is scarce, but we’re in contact with EA and we’ll hopefully know by tomorrow how this will all work.

UPDATE: EA Australia just sent out an official statement.

EA, Respawn and Microsoft are excited to share the news that Titanfall players based in Australia and New Zealand will be able to connect to Australian-based servers on all platforms. We are confident this will give our Australian and New Zealand fans a great experience.
So no new specifics as of yet.

Every review I have read praised it. I am over the whole FPS thing but might make an exception for this because it is different. Only issue I have is the weapons. There only appears to be about 6-7 guns outside the titans.

How does not having Aussie servers affect games? Honest question. I used to play lots of CoD and Battlefield and had some pretty bad lag at times, is that caused by no local service?
