1. Billy Slater ....Stewart has done nothing wrong and k-hunt is below his best. But, you simply cannot ignore Slater atm. Him and Scott Prince are the games in-form players. The guy has added ballplaying to his already impressive arsenal.

2. Greg Inglis.... Im not a fan of picking players out of position, but Greg Inglis is Greg Inglis. Magic player.

3. Justin Hodges....the best centre in the world. Does the work that Gasnier doesn't do.

4. Mark Gasnier....cops a lot of crap, but still the second best centre around.

5. Jarryd Hayne...great finisher with some freakish skill and underrated strength.

6. Braith Anasta...not great competition for this spot, but Anasta has done enough.

7. Johnathan Thurston...VERY TOUGH CALL.. Prince has been better and more consistent, but Thurston is the better player. World cup year....I'd stick with him. Prince has never impressed me in rep footy.

8. Luke Bailey...Workaholic.

9. Danny Buderus... To me, he has done enough. I'd be scared of Buderus more than Smith in attack.

10. Petro Civinocieva...been good in a bad side.

11. Luke O'Donnell...getting that edge back in attack and can work his ass off too.

12. Paul Gallen...mean bastard, who can work as well.

13. Greg Bird....best forward in the comp atm.

14. Kurt Gidley....great ute, gamebreaker.

15. Anthony Tupou...mr impact.

16. Willie Mason....can play prop/2nd row.

17. Anthony Laffranchi....can play prop/2nd row / high workrate.

1. Slater (only because Hunt is out, and because his form shames everyone else)
2. Falou (a match-up against Vatevei would be intriguing)
3. Hodges (best outside back in the game - without peer)
4. Inglis (because Gasnier's out, and suited to centre more than any other position IMO)
5. Hayne (token NSWer in an otherwise Qld backline)
6. Lockyer (if he gets through the Bunnies game, otherwise, Prince)
7. Thurston (how well will he play without the flu)
13. Bird (great ball-running form - best backrower in game at present)
12. Hindmarsh (low on form, but still big match player)
11. Willie Mason (no comment)
10. Civ (the master prop of the today's game)
9. Smith (benchmark of hookers, Buderus fall shorts at present)
8. Hannant (only debutante in run-on team - deserves spot)

14. Gidley (irresistable form and versatile)
15. Tupou (best off-load in the game at present)
16. Laffranchi (form warrants selection - last year)
17. Nate Myles (in the absence of Price and Bailey, only other prop in the game with a sniff)

2 years ago. Slater has showed nothing more than he did in 2006 and for a lot of 2005. I find it hilarious last year he was barely mentioned, yet this year in the same sort of form his name is being tossed around by everyone.

Slater's stepped it up a notch this year ... but the big thing is lack of stupid mistakes. He normally had one or two in him each game ... this year ... not many.

I'm sorry but you're a tad biased.
He was barely mentioned last year because he wasn't as good as he is this year.
It's simple and that has not come from increase in skills it has come from maturity.

Imagine that.... a team being picked on form! I suppose anything is possible.

Laffranchi for the number 11 spot!

1. Billy Slater - form fullback of the comp
2. Jarryd Hayne - best winger out there IMO
3. Justin Hodges - form centre of the comp
4. Mark Gasnier - next best centre, if injured, Folau
5. Greg Inglis - best position for him at rep level
6. Braith Anasta - form 5-8 of the comp
7. Scott Prince - form half of the comp
8. Petero Civoniceva - form prop of the comp
9. Cameron Smith - form hooker of the comp
10. Nate Myles - form young prop of the comp
11. Anthony Tupou - form ballplaying backrower of the comp
12. Anthony Laffranchi - form workhorse of the comp
13. Greg Bird - form lock of the comp

14. Kurt Gidley - form utility of the comp
15. Paul Gallen - form allround backrower of the comp (before suspension)
16. Willie Mason - form impact backrower of the comp
17. Luke Bailey - form allround prop of the comp (before injury)

You would think Australia would go with that team, but you can bet your money on Hindmarsh, Kite, Lockyer & O'Donnell somehow getting picked for the team again. I know you Hindy lovers out there cream yourself over the bloke, and he is a great player, but he should have retired from rep footy at the end of 2006.

New Zealand

1. Sam Perrett
2. Jason Nightingale or Shaun Kenny-Dowall - their stats are identical, but Nightingale has less errors
3. Iosia Soliola
4. Jerome Ropati
5. Manu Vatuvei
6. Benji Marshall
7. Ben Roberts or Rangi Chase
8. Roy Asotasi
9. Isaac Luke
10. Nathan Cayless
11. Frank Pritchard
12. Simon Mannering
13. Sonnybill Williams

14. David Faiumu or Dene Halatau
15. Greg Eastwood or Setaimata Sa
16. Evarn Tuimavave
17. Jeff Lima

18th Man: Jeremy Smith (Storm)

What the HELL happened to Rapira? Was so good last year, and now is averaging 50 metres a game, and has started every match in the front row? Talk about a fall from grace. And anyone who thinks Blair, Moimoi, Stanley, Vuna, Jeremy Smith (Souffs) are in good enough form to be picked for NZ are insane.

I can't believe the speculation about Lockyer's spot going to Anasta.

Even if Lockyer isn't fit enough to play there is no way they should pick Anasta at six when as long as Thurston and Prince are fit. It's got to be Lockyer-Thurston or Thurston-Prince.

The back five seem pretty clear to me. Slater, Inglis, Gasnier, Hodges, Folau. Only injury would change it.

Smith, Civoniceva and Mason will definitely be in the forwards somehere. That leaves seven places in the 17. I think Bird, Johnson, Gallen, Tupou and Gidley will be there on form. That leaves two and they'd probably need to be props. I don't think Kite is all that great. If Luke Bailey is fit he should probably get a run. That leaves blokes like O'Meley, Myles, Hindmarsh, maybe Laffranchi, maybe Hoffman, maybe Hannant at an outside chance.

You can throw Sam Thaiday into that forward mix. In fact his ability to play prop or second row makes him a good option for a bench spot.

This is tough. Selectors will show loyalty to players like Lockyer and Thurston (deservedly so) though the incumbency argument won't apply to all. If Billy Slater wasn't in such good form, Stewart as the incumbent would keep his position, though I don't think you can ignore the form of Slater.

So, here is my team so far:

1 - Billy Slater
2 - Israel Folau
3 - Mark Gasnier
4 - Justin Hodges
5 - Greg Inglis
6 - Darren Lockyer (c)
7 - Jonathan Thurston
8 - Willie Mason
9 - Cameron Smith
10 - Petero Civoniceva
11 - Anthony Laffranchi
12 - Paul Gallen
13 - Greg Bird

14 - Kurt Gidley
15 - Sam Thaiday/Nate Myles
16 - Anthony Tupou
17 - Ryan Hoffman

Gold Coast Titans fan I am, though selectors seriously cannot overlook Laffranchi can they? I don't think Hindmarsh fits in to the Lockyer and Thurston catergory despite being one of the best forwards of his era.

I left Brent Kite out, I ain't a fan.

When all is said and done we can pick two or three teams that would take on the world.

I missed the 2nd half of the Storm game so don't know how bad Slater's eye injury is. If it keeps him out of the team, then Inglis to fullback and Gasnier into the centres.

Luke Bailey was not considered due to injury. If he was picked he'd be in the team ahead of Kite.

That should be the team.

But you can guarantee that Lockyer, Hodges, and Smith will all be in the team.

Wow. Darius Boyd, Razor?

Yes he is in good form.

There are a lack of good wingers at the moment.

Hodges and Gasnier are both better players than Boyd & Hayne but they can't play on the wing. Folau and Inglis can both play on the wing, but as the better players, shouldn't be shafted to the wing so Gasnier and Hodges can play.

Of course he won't be. He should be.

I said that - "That should be the team. But you can guarantee that Lockyer, Hodges, and Smith will all be in the team."

osh Perry is better surely

Josh Perry is a sh*thouse player and would be about the 24th choice prop.
