Painkilling injections, Powerade/Gatorade, strapping, compression garments all enhance your performance too. Probably more than the pills Joey was taking

This poll is a subtle trick by LU, to determine how many posters are from Queensland, indicated by the 'Yes' column.

Even thought I'm a Knights fan, I cannot stand Andrew Johns. However, the recreational drugs he admitted to taking are in no way performance enhancing. I'd love to see someone play a game of footy whilst high .. I don't think it would be pretty.

As other people have said, it's about on field performance not off field. If we're going to judge the immortals on their off field behaviour Raper, Langlands & Beetson would have to go.

I do think other players like Norm Provan should have been an immortal before Johns but that is another discussion.

The Immortals concept is a gimmick.

The fact that someone like Keith Holman was overlooked for Andrew Johns is absurd and stripped the Immortals concept of its credibility.

Its very possible Johns would have become an immortal in the future.

Some of the criteria is also somewhat dubious. Team specific achievements shouldn't be included. It should be focussed on personal achievements, integrity, work for the game on and off the field.

Holman was a Test player, a test referee, a coach, he did a lot of work in Papua New Guinea teaching locals how to play and promoting the game there. He also did a lot of work with junior comps in Western Sydney, hell he even has a junior team named after him.

He overcame much more severe hardships in his life than anything Johns ever had to deal with. An Orphan before he went to school, never met his parents, got turned down to play the game due to his size by both Souths. Manly signed him for a season in lower grades but didn't want him either.

Wests picked him up while he played bush footy.

Holman also fought in New Guinea during WWII.

He was halfback the day Australia won the Ashes back from Great Britain in 1950, for the first time in 30 years. Instead of getting match payments, he and the players requested to get trophies instead to remind them of the victory.

Johns being regarded as an immortal over Holman was an abomination and rendered the whole concept a farce and denied the concept of any credibility whatsoever.

Ecstacy performance enhancing = having a laugh.

Half of the immortals were legendary grog monsters who probably rocked up to games still rancid ffs...

Immortal status was based on bottles of wine and created by RLW.....it really has no cred IMO

It's purely an on field award! How do some merkins have so much trouble with this concept...

handed out by a media publication.

similar to the Dally M which is also voted on predominantly by pencil-neck or alcoholic journos, the way the Immortals concept is recognised as a significant honour is kind of ridiculous.

why doesn't a Hall of Fame deal with this sort of platitude?

Exactly, and he admitted to taking drugs his whole career, while playing....wait for it.....ON THE FIELD. Illegal drugs that would improve his mood and/or state of mind, allowing him to play better than he otherwise would have had he not taken them. They might not have been labeled "performance enhancing" or "steroids" but if they made him feel better and relax more or whatever it was that he got out of them then to me thats enhancing your performance.

He's a drug * and nothing more.

 this is one of the most ill informed and therefore f**king hilarious posts I have ever read on any forum. Well done.

As an avid taking of pills from 1993 to 2005 let me give you a few pointers on what they would do to you

If you took the field whilst under the effects of ecstacy your hand eye co-ordination would be shot to shit. You'd be able to pull more gormless faces for a while and even spend half the game staring at the flood lights but passing and catching a ball would be beyond you. Hell, there were times when I was so offchops that I couldn't even touch my own f**king nose with my hand my depth perception was so disjointed.

If Johns had taken the drugs 48 hours BEFORE a game the ensuing lack of seratonin would have left him feeling lethargic and mildly depressed, not happy. Ecstacy (MDMA) causes your body to flood the brain with seratonin which is the natural chemical your body creates to put you in a good mood. However ecstacy does such a good job of this that you over produce and it leaves you in a seratonin defecit. This leaves users of the drug depressed until the body rights itself. This takes about 3 days and it's the reason clubbers always used to hate Tuesdays after a night out.

If Johns had taken the drug a week before a game it would have had absolutely no effect on his state of mind or his ability to play football for better or for worse.

Hope this clears things up for you Charlie.

I didn't assume anything, these were admissions made by johns himself in his interviews about taking drugs while playing. I don't know if it was specifically ecstasy or something else but whatever it was he revealed that it made him feel better or put him in a better frame of mind.

As for what effects certain drugs have had on you personally or how you think they would effect someone else, frankly I couldn't care less what some junkie has to say on the topic.

Well... who woulda thought?

The fact that a question is being asked seems to have been lost in some parts. Did it ever occur that maybe, just maybe, the show will reflect the support for Joey? People jump to conclusions too easy.

Next week's poll should be a ripper.
