I reckon as a club we should have four jerseys.
1) Captains Run Jersey - 2025 jersey is great baseline.
The captain's run jersey should always be a white jersey with a red dragon in whatever style is the club's current version of the mascot. As players do warm up on field it looks clearly like a Dragons jersey and it fits perfectly with socks and shorts.
2) The Red V - why mess with perfection?
3) The White V - Simply reverse the colours and have a red jersey with a white V on it with shorts and socks unchanged. This would be the clash jersey
Steelers are gone, the Illawarra in the name is no longer there for the Steelers, but for the district. Leave the Steelers jersey in the past and simply have a reverse of the Red V for clashes and merchandise sales, its simply a reverse of the Red V.
The Red V is our identity and we should always wear it with pride, and every jersey should have a V on it
Create Steeler's tribute jerseys for merchandise sales, but for on field play the jersey should be a V either red or white depending whether its main jersey or clash jersey.
4) The Black V - Only worn on very rare occasions when a former great has passed, this jersey would have no sponsors and would be a black jersey with a red V and it would only be worn for home games at Kogarah or Wollongong. The shorts would be black and the socks would swap the white for black.
Imagine when Jonny Raper passed away if the team ran onto the field in all black with a big red v on the front of the Jersey.
Johhny Raper's passing was a huge moment for our club and all we could do was wear black tape around an arm. We should have a mourning jersey that might only be worn once every couple of years, so its reverence is not diminished and it should not be available for purchase by fans. It's about demonstrating the whole club is in mourning for the passing of giant. The team captain's jersey on the day would then be framed and added to the Dragons museum near whatever commemoration we have for that player.
This would require negotiation with the NRL as it does not comply with current rules but I think the NRL could be brought on board. Only clash I can think of would be Panthers, but the jersey would only be worn at home games so they can wear their away jersey.
