Ch 10 and 7 may be willing to lose money 'promoting' a code, but they were backed into it by the AFL due to their respective lack of content. Ch9 has the Cricket for their national markets, where as the others have squat. After all, the AFL isn't the true national game that cricket is.
Do ch9 really expect good Tv ratings for the Storm ? No.ch9 during next winter and from then on ,will only have rugby league, not league and Afl as they do now.Lack of content QED.Cricket ain't played in winter.
.McGuire has stated out loud and clear to AFL's Demetriou ,his organisation is going all out "to put all our money and effort"promote rugby league. That statement was made before the G/F,and the resultant huge ratings.
Now the only way you can promote a code(all out) is to advertise it or show it at reasonable hours ,even if at first like the Swans the ratings are ordinary for the Storm.AFL will always be the code in Melbourne as rugby league is in Sydney,as has been shown through SOO,and g/F, and even semis involving the Storm, the game rates.Televising the Storm at respectable hours can help the game to grow, despite ordinary storm club ratings.
Don't kid yourself that Brian Waldron(Storm CEO) isn't also getting into fast Eddie's ear.IMO this is the best oppo for rugby league to get decent exposure
in Melbourne on FTA.
