The Axemen defeated the Knights 38 to 27 in the cross code battle Saturday.
Those looking for a definative answer to the "whose tougher" debate might be disappointed.
The Axemen were able to score once in the American code first half on a botched punt return by the Knights. After that it was all Knights till the second half.
The second half saw the Axemen score 32 unanswered points. These points may not have been matched by the Knights but I will tell you, and I bet Spinner will agree, that they were well earned. The Knights faught hard till the end. They gave the Axe a better go than many of the visiting RL teams I have seen.
Like always the Axemen's top conditioning was a major factor in the victory. The Knight's were holding their own in the third quarter and dishing out punishing hits but began to wear down. Sloppy tackles and confusion took a toll on the Knights as the Axemen wore them down, came back, and eventually overtook them.
There wasn't a bit of quit in the Knights. They did us yanks proud and gave as good as they got throughout...sometimes gave a little more.
Most importantly everyone had a great time.
