my day will be spent avoiding the boiler rooms (except possibly lupe, is he playing there? He'd be interesting to see).

Sparkadia, I thought were goo

Childrens Collide, were also good

Birds of Tokyo, never seen a D barrier empty so fast

Bullet for my Vallentine, were very good

Sneaky Sound System, never seen a crowd push to get out of a D barrier before, generally there is a crowded line up to get in

Serj Tankian, sang a bunch of pop songs and harmonies including an ABBA cover, boring as hell, just waiting or Living End to start

Living End- best band of the day for me, really got the crowd going

Butterfly Effect- should have been on the main stage instead of Serj, especially on their home turf, very good

Neil Young- surprisingly very good but at 60 years of age lacked the energy to get the crowd up at that time of the night, his rhythm guitarist looked about 70 and looked bored silly

All in all rather disappointing compared to previous years, could walk in and out of the D barrier at any time where as previous years you had to line up for up to 15/20 minutes, says it all really.

Looking at Sydney't timetable I think the choice to put the Prodigy in the boiler room instead of the main stage will be mistake of epic and damaging proportions.

They had all tables smashed, an infaltable wall slashed and various other damage done when they shoved Sneaky Sound System in the lilypad a couple years ago.... and their fans are mostly teenage girls!

I wouldnt want to be the security trying to hold 20,000+ people out of the boiler room come 10pm.

See, you should've gone and watched the dropkick murphys later on, then you would've got a good live band experience

I had a good day. I started way way to early and hit a hump at like 2 in the afternoon, but it was all good. I wasn't really that pumped to see any band in particular- which is unusual for a festival but some of the main i was there to see were birds, cog and butterfly effect.

The Getaway plan- Decent enough
Birds of Tokyo- Played well but main stage sound was sh*t. All you could here was vocals and the drums.
Cog- Same as Birds- good band but guitar levels were crap
Bullet for my valentine- Good show. I'm not all that into the band but they were tighter than i expected and it was surprising how many songs of theres i knew.
Pendulum- Best band of the day for me. Never seen them before and dont like dance music, but there main stage sound was great and the crowd were pumped for them.
Butterfly effect- great sound and a pumped crowd for the homecoming. I loved it, but a few of my mates were a little disappointed he was relying on his falsetto alot later in the set.
Fantomas- Saw three songs, awesome but i couldn't stand there for a whole set without knowing anything.. and i was a little scared.
Dropkick Murphys- Put on a great show and I wish i knew more of there stuff. One of the better bands of the day and worth checking out if your stuck for a band last up.

I went yesterday and I'm certainly paying for it today!

The bands that featured through out my day:
Sparkadia - Solid
Children Collide - Solid
Birds Of Tokyo - Good, I was towards the front of the D which may have enhanced the experience.
The Grates - Beyond Average. The lead singer wore a nice get up but aside from that their music is old and nobody really cared about them anymore.
The Ting Tings - Better than what you'd expect. Only caught their first and last song though as I was at...
Cog - Beyond Average. Couldn't believe how poor My Enemy is live. Rest of the set was okay but a little mundane.
Black Kids - The real surprise packets of the BDO. They were actually really good live and the crowd was really into them which enhanced the viewing experience.
TV On The Radio - Good but dissapointing. Mind you I only caught their first and last songs but still they weren't as engrossing as I thought they would be. Mind you I only like one of their songs and I believe I missed it (Wolf Like Me).
Lupe Fiasco - Surprisingly good. Captivated a massive audience but again I only caught bits and pieces as I was on a slight intermission preparing for the home stretch and only stayed to watch a couple of songs before I travelled to the main stage to catch a bit of...
Pendulum - Great. Seriously annoyed I didn't get up closer to see them (I was a good 200m away from them as they were playing). Surprisingly enough their sound carried and they sounded incredibly sharp.
My Morning Jacket - Great, they're extremely tight live and it was a great experience. No moshing, just mutual appreciation of a fine band.
The Living End - Good although I didn't get up close enough to appreciate them more as I was looking for people for a good hour. My only gripe was their setlist. Too much of their new stuff and when songs like "Prisoner of Society" don't make an appearance it dappens the experience. Closing with White Noise was bit of a joke but aw well, still a good live band who's been around long enough to encite a crowd which is saying more than the...
Artic Monkeys - Boring. Don't get me wrong they weren't horrible but they weren't daring and it basically felt like I was listening to one of their CDs.
Neil Young - Watched him from afar but it appeared he came on a little too late and played in the wrong tent. Not a bad show by any means and he knows how to work it.
Prodigy - Saw them from afar because a crowd of around 20-30K were packed into the tent. Nothing all that surprising and I believe they should've been on the main stage as a lot of people (like myself) missed out on what could've been a good experience.

Other notes:
The tent placings were a big hit and miss.

The Boiler Room was better although it wasn't enough to accomodate acts like Lupe and Prodigy. While The Green Stage and The Essential were placed horribly. The Green Stage should never of been moved and the Essential deserved better. If I had it my way The Green Stage would stay in it's original location. The Essential would be where the Green Stage was this year and The V Produce could take over the Essential. That would make things a lot better IMO.

The crowd was one of the best I've seen in awhile.

Nice Big Pete. Probably would've only gone for Living End/Children Collide, but saw them at Newcastle Panthers. Cheers for that.

When I saw them Chris admitted he's already sick of performing White Noise and the crowd asked Children Collide to sing Roll On.

 Nice anecdote.

Yeah I'm not all that familiar with Children Collides work and being fairly unknown up here the crowd wasn't really all that geared up for them but I thought they were solid. I liked some of the guitar effects they incorporated but being fairly new to the airwaves they probably needed something to incaptulate them more.

I might of been a bit hard on White Noise, while it may of been a spit on the face of all Living End fans who were dying for PoS it actually closed the show quite well. I personally just found it a little dissapointing because The Living End have such a catelogue of songs that appeal to me yet they played so much junk from their previous records (What's On Your Radio, Wake Up...ek) and I may of missed it but I didn't hear Roll On either. Still they were one of the better bands but they could've been THE highlight.

Excuse the ranting and raving...I'm still feeling the effects of the day!

tents were moved around from last year because the place is being demolished, that was the last BDO at Parklands

thats the first time I've ever seen Living End not perform Prisoner of Society, and I've seen them about 10 times

anyone notice his Buddy Holly glasses when he came out, didn't stay on for long tho

The album is good, quite unexpectedly good, but got some great catchy songs on it.

Well my day went something like this

Got to the meeting point for the bus by 9 as instructed.

Waited for bus

waited longer

cracked open a pale ale

bus comes about 20 to 10

slow bus trip as we stop for people to piss, buy piss then piss again. Some of the bus were mates and others i didnt know cos it was a coach
get there around midday we go into the d

Children Collide - only really heard rather than watched them but seemed ok

Birds of Tokyo who everyone was pumped to see. WHat a mediocre falsetto band. Pretty boring

Me and a couple of mates left halfway through them to go see little red, that was pretty cool. Walked through the crowd for ting tings which was hugeto get fresh air plus drink
found some other mates at bullet for my vallentine, watched them, not really my cup of tea but ok

Then we went over and watched Lupe Fiasco. A few of his songs are some of the only rap i can handle, kick push was awesome and superstar went allright but too much stuff in the middle i didnt know or really enjoy.

After getting out of the approproately named boiler room got some tea and chilled in the grandstand during serj tankien. He was aweful i thought, real rubbish.

Went back down into the D for The Living End. They were really fuggin good, hadnt seen them live since 04 so was good to see them again. Played prisoner of societ, west end riot second solution all torn down. Nothing off Roll On which was dissapointing, the new songs were ok live, raise the alarm was good.

After them watched the arctic monkeys, ok but not spectacular.

Went out for a bit ran into a mate n went over to boiler room line but thought f**k this and went back to the seats n watched Neil Young. Not bad i gotta say, altho still a strange choice for headline he put on a good show.

Finally after that went to dropkick murphys. Got there just as the intro music of the foggy dew started playing with them starting early. By far the best set of the night. Opened with For Boston, then famous for nothing, heroes of our past, state of massachusetts, johnny i hardly knew ya, sunshine highway, Black velvet band, bastards on parade(awesome), order is sketchy after this but there was captain kellys kitchen, Your Spirits Alive, fields of athenry, kiss me im sh*tfaced, shipping up to boston was last and then encore of Boys on the Docks. Might've forgotten a song but a really good setlist. Alot of fun in the circle type ruckus that is too be expected at such a gig.

All in all a pretty good day, apart from some of the ********s in the crowd. You get too many people there for the event rather than the actual music. Well my day went something like this

A few things,

HD (and whoever else was dicussing AiC), i'm a massive, massive fan... am going to Soundwave because they were on the bill (ofcourse NIN, and some others definately helped), also going to their Sidewave. Layne was definately the heart and soul of the band, and even though he was on the wane in unplugged... cmon man that as a whole was one powerful DVD/performance. On that same note, AiC's music and Jerry Cantrell etc... DuVall is not too bad (although, ofc nothin on layne, as like HD said he is irreplaceable.) Still should be reason enough to watch them for any AiC fan imo.

I just got back home from Serj Tankian. We went more for the Fantomas, tbh. Mike Patton was insane, never seen someone use vocals like an instrument like he does. Serj was OK, i mean his showmanship/perfmance really outshone the setlist... and Twiz they played Money from ABBA... which def made me go 'wtf.' Still great night out, my first at the Enmore and i loved it and the surrounding newtown area. It has its own sub-culture IMO, just an awesome place to experience. Will be going back there for Jeff Beck next week and then AiC in Feb, looking forward to revisit the atmosphere of Newtown
