You cannot compare the two, Benny had different rules, where the hooker had a bigger role in the game, he could rake the ball back in the play the ball, he could win a scrum against the feed etc. Todays hookers are at dummy half a lot and act like a second five eighth almost. They are more involved in defence too.

Steve Walters is regarded as one of if not THE best hooker of all time... Benny Elias, as good a player he was (being a junior hooker myself, he was a favourite of mine a kid) couldnt match it with Walters
