Stormhi said 'Johnson and Hoffman were cut from the same cloth'

I think putting Hoffman and creagh in the same sentence isn't right either

I liked Hoffman when he played for NSW at least he stood up to be counted for NSW. Unlike creagh deadset I dunno how he keeps getting picked

LOL, he also compares himself to Brock Lesnar.

I think hoffman is exactly like Creagh.

Comparing hoffman to Johnson is insulting Johnson.

Insulting Hoffman to Johnson insults hindy haha

Deadset hindy and Johnson are the 2 biggest workhorses in the comp

Going to be a sad day for us eels fans when hindy goes :(

Guys again you take what I say out of context sigh

Hoffman and Johnson both tough yes?
Hoffman and Johnson both work hard yes?
Hoffman Johnson both stand up to be counted yes?

Johnson is far and away the better of the two but what they bring to the table is cut from the same cloth.

And yes when Hindy finally hangs up his boots gonna be a epically sad day for all of us who watch the game deadest champion!!

 The only similarity is they all make a lot of tackles.

No, they are both very tough hard players, none of them are a big framed bloke. None are what you would call a monster player.

Yet both make tackles all day, both continually a try saving tackle, cover defense, head on tackles, always around the legs. All of them will go all day. Two of them continually get knocked out, get up and make the next bloody tackle. Tough as nails.

Ryan Hoffman is like Ben Creagh. Runs out wide and offers very little in defense and are both absolute cry baby pussy's.

Both of them? You named 3 players..

Dallas Johnson is one of the hardest tacklers in the game, he consistently hits players hard and at a great efficiency rate. Only takes runs when he has to, a really one dimensional player.

Nathan Hindmarsh is an accumulator who takes lots of runs and makes lots of tackles, he makes more try savers than any other player in the NRL.

David Stagg is solid, he does things well but nothing excellently.

The thing that sets these two apart from David Stagg is that they've been doing this consistently for years at the highest level. Stagg has never proven nor deserved the shot to play at a higher level, he's a solid well rounded player who's nothing more than a first grader. I certainly wouldn't class him in the same group as these two class players.

But then again the doggiesbro factor of adding an extra 30-50% ability for players wearing blue and white means I can see why you'd think that.

Or you could factor in a couple years ago he was classed as Lock of the year. You forget that?

So did Nathan Hindmarsh, about 4 or 5 times now. If not for the bias against forwards he probably would of won best and fairest by now. Then there was his successful international and State of origin career and his consistency to play at such a high level for such a long period of time.

So did Dallas Johnson, not to mention his successful State of origin career where he has proven to play at the highest level of the game. Also his ability to be continually be regarded as one of the best in his field year after year.

So yeh Stagg won it once, kudos to him. He hasn't gone on to do much since then.

You still can't see the difference in class?

That was your comment, so a solid yet nothing excellent player won lock of the year a couple of years ago? So my 30-50% biased ability was a factor when they selected him for lock of the year?

I think it is you with the 30-50% biased against ability for anyone who wears blue and white, and hasn't been bought out by your club.

Yeh plenty of shit, average and solid players have won player of the year awards in their respective positions.

Brett Finch
Braith Anasta
Adam Dykes
Daniel Wagon
Eric Grothe
Colin Best
Josh Morris

Based on your argument (and your sole argument thus far), Colin Best is like Greg Inglis and Justin Hodges.

Braith Anasta is like Jonathon Thurston and Darren Lockyer.

Daniel Wagon is like Nathan Hindmarsh and Dallas Johnson.

Individual awards usually reflect a purple patch of form rather than a players ability which is what players should be measured and judged by when comparing their careers, not just the peak of it. Your obsession with a one year performance highlights your inability to remain objective.

Any broncos fans here? If so i'm sure they will keen to tell you what an idiot you are, stagg not only had a cracker of a year with the dogs in 2009 he has ripped in for broncos in alot of positions and also earnt origin jerseys before his lock of the year award. he clearly has the ability.

Again he was solid for the Broncos, a good utility player and a great club man but he was never in the same class of Hindy or Dallas Johnson. I think Broncos fans would remember him more as a handy player who was always going to put in rather than a classy player who was a big loss to them.

Also from memory he only got the one origin jersey, not jerseys and unfortunately didn't really impress in the loss when Finch kicked that great field goal.

Stagg's a good solid player, but he's no Dallas Johnson or Nathan Hindmarsh. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

If anything I'd compare him to someone like Matt Hilder.

I think people are being a bit too kind to Hindmarsh. He's a great worker but he is slower than Ben Smith and that's saying something, he used to be a better player but he's getting past it. He offers nothing in attack and the problem is Smith doesn't either. There's no balance in Parra's backrow and buggerall speed in the whole team tbh. They will struggle in attack with the lineup they have.

I'm sure Cooper cronk is going to love having one of his favorite option hold runners back in Hoffman. The comparisons to creagh works, they both run the outside in line for their respective ball players beautifully.

How anyone is bagging some of the blokes mentioned in this thread is laughable

I'm wondering why doggies bro thinks Hoffman is a pussy or a soft player........ Can't ever remember him in a incident that would give him that tag ( and he has always been a good defender)

As a hole runner Hoffman is crap and has been since 2008. And now he doesnt have GI to keep the defence honest hed be even more crap at that role.

Best suited as a high-volume defender now

Agree, i don't think Storm fans realise what a loss Blair will be if they are clinging hope to that cry baby.

I'm not saying i'd take david stagg over johnson, i wouldn't. but to compare him to hilder is a joke. Stagg is a good player and that is the reason he got lock of the year a couple of years ago. The bulk of broncos fans said as soon as he was given a position to make his own that they knew stagg would shine and be something most teams would love to have. there are 2 players that are similar to him that i would take over him and thats harrison and johnson. if i was going to compare stagg to someone outside of them it would be michael luck, who again is massively underrated although stagg has a far better ball playing game then luck.

when hindy retires, it's going to be very very evident as to how much work this guy actually does. sure he may flop into tackles here and there but this guy saves many tries, more than anyone else in the competition he has one of the longest running motors.

He's 32 and still playing 80 minutes a game...thats incredible and also racking up the numbers he does aswell...dunno how anyone can bag the guy.

I'd love to have Stagg replace him tbh. honest hard player, not to the calibre of Hindy but would do a top job picking up the slack when he left
