Bagging Billy Slater

It should be. If Slater was anywhere near as safe as Stewart and Hunt there would be no dispute over who is better.

Why, he doesnt do it all the time. He made a mistake, if he starts making them all the time then I'd re-consider.

But until then Billy > every other FB.

He didn't just make a mistake, he made a crucial fundamental error. It's like forgetting to play the ball for most of us here. As for not making mistakes all the time, yeah that's correct. But usually he isn't really tested. He does do well against quality opposition, at times though, but as I have seen it when he is truly tested and placed under constant pressure he comes off second best.

Billy Slater has really come down the pecking order with that mistake...still, there will be people blowing their load (the johns brothers) next year singing his praises and saying he is the best...blah blah blah.
Come origin time (injuries permitting) Hunt will be the fullback and Slater coming off the bench. Thank christ QLD learn from their mistakes (putting Hunt at fullback, Slater on the bench, Webb and Bowen used only as a last resort)

All this talk of Slater's offensive skills is just pointless. A fullback is there to defend the goal line. Slater failed 3 times in one match. Once massively.

Hoahai dropped one bomb, but the one other time he was called on, he held up Folau ingoal. Now that's Fullback work.

Dead agree. We fo not need the world's most attacking fullback anyway when Ingils, Folau, Lockyer, Thurston, etc are in the lineup anyway. Give me a fullback that saves 2 tries than a fullback who is a moron and throws the game away. That error was beyond dumb!

Sure I saw Slater dump your stupid F88king team out of the comp when he slid into stop Hannants try.

Slater has become a very good defender and give's his team better field position through his postional play then any other FB.

I love it. He makes a try saving slide and he's knocking a team out of the comp, but he gifts a try to NZ at 18-16, and he hasn't lost the game for Australia.

I think the logic needs some re-tooling.

bullsh*t.
Slater was dumped from fullback in orgins 2-3 cause he was soooo poor in game one. Hunt comes in and they smash NSW by 30....and go on to win game 3 and the series.
Slater never runs the ball back hard and 9/10 meets the defense on an angled run.....oh and take a look at his run back that COST australia the game.
Positional play my arse.

Slater was just the scape-goat for the loss. Sure he made some errors with his passing and his running angles but the result would have been exactly the same in games 2 & 3 if they had of stayed pat. Who scored the series winning try again.

Anyway his postional play I was referring to was when the other team has the ball. He gets to the kick better and faster then any other FB in the game hence putting his team in much better field postion then they should be.

And cutie might run it back harder, whoop-de-damn-do, he's 6"3" and 105kg, so he f*cking should, but try beating your man once in while or looking for some link play ffs.

6'3?
105kg?
I think you need to stop talking out of your arse. He is 6'1 and about 93kg.
Result would have been the same? i think not. Slater is not a starting origin fullback.
I cant wait for 2009 when Hunt is picked there AGAIN ahead of Slater and all the knob jockeys in the media like the Johns brothers cry about it.

Slater doesnt get the ball back in better field position as he gets the ball and dances around like a cat. Run the ball back and start the set of six...not run to the sidelines and get pushed into touch!

i think the SOO 2 victory had very very little to do with Hunt/Slater and more to do with Inglis.

Watch the game again. Hunt got them on the front foot early and it set the tone for the rest of the night.
Hunt is a winner... tough... origin player. Billy is a cat who punches on when not needed (dragons game) and kicks people (skandalis) in the head when he is not looking.

Slater made more metres in game one than Hunt did in game two and three combined. Slater also made that big break down the sideline in game 1 which would have got them back in the game but the ensuing play faultered. And Slater is a scapegoat for SOO 1, Hunt was a scapegoat too for being one dimensional at 5/8. The inclusion of Prince in SOO 2 was more of an impact than Hunt to 1 imo because they finally had a 5/8 in thurston who could feed the ball to Inglis early.

Brilliant! More crazy logic! Seriously, Ray Warren would have scored that try. Thurston did the hard work in selling the dummy and making the break. All Slater had to do was be able to catch a pass and fall over the line. If that's a demonstration of how great he was in the origin series then you might be selling him short.

Wrong. Many times Slater was found chasing down a rolling ball. Hunt has better positional play. Stewart has better positional play. Slater has an offensive edge over both of them in his ability to get through gaps. But that is all he has over them, making him a perfect candidate for the wing.

He made more yards cause after the initial 20 mins Hunt was moved from fullback. I dont buy into total yards, tackles made, assists etc...this is not the f**king NBA or NFL.
Watch the game!!!!

i did watch the game, NSW kicked directly at Billy as a tactic to tire him out, it worked to a degree. Billy likes to link up with his wingers or at least make out like he would but NSW kicked straight to him and took the wingers out of play. Billy wasnt awful and definitely didnt lose QLD the game, in fact most times he got it to decent field position, but QLD were one dimensional in attack with Thurston, Hunt and Slater as the attacking options, once they added Prince in SOO2 suddenly the side was prepared to spread the ball and Inglis got the rewards.
