Balkan Super League

It's really disappointing that mascord is trying to take credit for that. The Albanian Rugby League reps attended the RLEF AGM in Serbia months before that page was created.

You can see that simply by checking the date of the AGM and comparing it to the date that page was created.

Fair enough

Well that being the case. Good on Mascord for his active assistance and good on the Rugby league development people!

Creating social media pages for nations where RL doesn't exist yet seems like a pretty weird thing to do to me, how many has he made?

Suppose it's a formative anticipation thing!? It can't do harm. Some publicity is better than no publicity.

Yeah but it's a bit pointless when you go on these pages and they are simply advertising boards for mascord's other websites, churning out all the same duplicate posts usually about NRL or something like that. Even on the Albania page, all the relevant Albanian RL posts that they do occasionally make get lost in the sea of this other garbage.

Probably about a dozen. All the nations starting with 'A' so far. Not sure if he's gone any further than 'A' yet.

Understand however its still rugby league and is their info about getting involved in rugby league in the local scene? If so, it's still a good thing.

I don't think it is pointless. If you get a handful of locals subscribing to the page then all of the sudden they can connect and start something, possibly adopting the page.

You'll notice if you go to many a Rugby Union in X wikipedia page, it systematically begins with

"Rugby union in X is a minor but growing team sport in the country."

Agreed! As stated b4 " any publicity is good publicity " It lets some people know that the code exists. Not a world wide knowledge concept for rugby league especially. Someone should write a book " The Hidden Code".

Did he not relinquish control of the accounts once there was an actual Albanian RL? Pretty poor if so, and it means that in the future Mascord could potentially be controlling the social media of a lot of the RL playing world.

As for the idea itself, I guess it's not without merit but I still think it's funny if he created pages for the likes of Afghanistan, I wonder if he included Abkhazia or didn't want to risk a political dispute.

I think you will find Steve would be very surportive of handing these twitter handles over once there is a real setup

On Albania, it looks like the Albania Rugby Union pages have turned completely to League, so the page that Steve Mascord created is no longer the official page.

Anyway interesting to see a team from Montenegro will take spot 15 in the 2018 Balkan Super League.

Confirmed Groupings:
Group A
RLC Radnički New Belgrade, Belgrade (Serbia)
TRLA Champions (Turkey)
RLC Warriors, Banja Luka (Bosnia and Hertzegovina, Republic of Srpska)

Group B
RLC Partisan, Belgrade (Serbia)
RLC Locomotive, Sofia (Bulgaria)
RLC Aris Eagles, Athens (Greece)

Group C
RLC Radnički, Niš (Serbia)
RLC Patras, Patras (Greece)
RLC Tirana, Tirana (Albania)

Group D
RLC Dorcol, Belgrade (Serbia)
RLC FIS Vitez, Vitez (Bosnia and Hertzegovina)
Team from Montenegro

Group E
RLC Red Star, Belgrade (Serbia)
RLC Rhodes Knights, Rhodes (Greece)
TRLA Runner up (Turkey)

Just need to be careful not to impact the tier below

It took 20y for Illawarra Newcastle Auckland Brisbane to recover from setting up a higher tier team

That's a completely different thing. The Serbian, Greek, and Turkish Leagues will all go on as normal, unaffected by this. These matches will be played in addition to their domestic league matches. As for the others (Bosnia, Bulgaria, Albiania), they do not yet have competitions of their own, so it gives their teams a chance for some matches.

Interesting that they have kept the Serbian teams in seperate groups. Given the small groups I am guessing there will be some cross over games?

I guess there may be a danger of the Serbian teams walking the table and demoralising some of the newer teams. But it is up to the others to rise to their level.

Really interested to see what level the Greek teams are at.

There is also a thread on TRL about this and someone involved said that they play the teams in their group once, which means one home game and one away game and then the leading teams move on to the knockout stages.

Here's a copy of a post from zzatelo who appears to be Albanian.

http://www.totalrl.com/forums/index...r-league/&page=2&tab=comments#comment-3707169

"No mate is one match away and one home with 3 teams in one group. With 12 clubs – 15 matches: 4 groups of 3 (3 rounds, each club plays 2 games, one at home, one away). The winner of each group goes to the playoffs – 4 clubs. Playoffs: semifinals and final."

How that works with five groups I'm not sure.
