Because that size will not meet budgeted profit plans i guess.
But anyway what the f**k ... these green merkins wont every reefo under the sun to come to Australia but when their shitty little village atmosphere around Balmain needs to change a bit like the rest of Sydney to house the extra population they fight tooth and nail.to.stop.it. .. f**king hypocritical pricks.

I have no idea what is being planned but FFS you'd think they would let some developments go through. No wonder we are paying $1million for a house to live in.

Another article on it.

Balmain Leagues Club plan kicked out again
The proposed Rozelle Village at the Balmain Tigers Leagues Club site.

A fourth attempt at redeveloping the Balmain Tigers club on Sydney’s busy Victoria Road has been rejected by the Land and Environment Court over design issues even though it satisfied height and massing planning requirements.

The club was forced out of its Rozelle headquarters by the former NSW Labor government seven years ago because the then government had wanted to build a metro station. The site was bought by Rozelle Village for about $23.5 million, which the club used to retire debt.

Rozelle Village lodged plans to build a 12-level and eight-level apartment tower on the site.

The developer lobby, led by the Urban Taskforce, fired a salvo at the Greens yesterday, saying the party had misused the Land & Environment Court ruling to condemn urban development in inner city sites in Sydney.

“It is important that projects of medium height at transport nodes and town centres are supported, particularly if they comply with the relevant development controls,” Urban Taskforce chief executive Chris Johnson said.

“For the Greens Party to claim that the decision sends a message against skyscrapers is just scaremongering.

“The Greens often raise concerns about housing affordability in Sydney but do not seem to understand that stopping new housing developments will only increase the cost of housing in Sydney.”

Mr Johnson, a former NSW government architect, said it also seemed ironic that the Greens were campaigning to keep the 12-storey Sirius building in the Rocks but did not want buildings of this height in their back yard.

NSW Greens MP Jamie Parker said the court’s decision “should send a strong message to the developer that Rozelle doesn’t need skyscrapers but needs sensible development”.

He called on the developer “to work constructively with the community and the council to ensure an appropriate development”.

I can't believe that this shit hasn't been sorted out yet. The council has not budged an inch and made it clear what they will accept.

RV keeps trying to get their way but its a fight you cannot and will not win. All developers must yield to the powers that be government.

If that Balmain development was here in the Shire it would go ahead. Anything and everything here gets to green light. The local council and the lib gov raking in the money.

Same as everywhere else in Syd

Units
Balmain Leagues Club is soon to be litterally dead and buried, a delay caused by asbestos I believe.
The old site comes under the HBG Umbrella which includes the Rozelle Village.... apparently it's affordable market housing and provide 227 units across considerably upsized buildings of up to 16 storeys. Affordable my arse.
Surrounding the public plaza will be a new registered club to replace the previous Balmain Leagues Club, as well as a 3075 m² supermarket, another 2372 m² of retail space, a 765 m² commercial allocation, and 200 m² of community facilities in a non-residential podium.
BUT the new club iffices are not going to be Balmain, instead it's going to be Wests Ashfield Leagues Club.
RIP Balmain Leagues Club. :(

Wasn’t the original building development knocked back due to hight being 8 stories?
I understood that the Balmain LC was going to manage it.
Seems to have all changed.
Still, it will make the WT’s are very powerful organisation.

Balmain are dead mate. The HBG Umbrella group now run the show. There's no such thing as Balmain Leagues Club but the football club still exists.....that's my understanding of it all. The goal posts changed when Balmain's debt was paid out by them and they now only have a 2% say in the matter....which is about deciding what colour the new portable loos are going to be at LO :)

Wests Tigers need to be privately owned which is practically the HBG but they were formed to bail out the Magpies years ago....so thats where their loyalty lies.
We need to be neither Balmain or Western Suburbs, BUT Wests Tigers.

The branding of the club will be interesting. Hopefully they’ll go with Wests Tigers Leagues Club

If your talking about the new development the only office there to my knowledge is going to be Ashfield Leagues Club.
The Wests Tigers Football Club operates out of Concord but that is also falls under the umbrella group. That's my understanding of it all.
The only saving grace for supporters like me is the Wests Tigers NRL brand name and logo are controlled trademarks of the ARL Commission hence it CANNOT be re-named or altered by WSDRLFC, even though there is a little Maggie on the jersey. This I hate because we are the Wests Tigers, not the Wests Tigers Magpies...bullshit!
We are a fractured club, in lower grades we play against each other, I don't watch those games anymore because WT should have three adult teams, NRL, KOE and Flegg.
Just like the old days.
