I read somewhere that the juniors from the south west will be Magpies next year, with a clear pathway to the Wests Tigers at NRL level. This is a smart step in helping the area identify with their team.

So who's juniors are they now ?

Wests Tigers and Wests Magpies have agreed that the management of junior development programs in South-Western Sydney will revert to Wests Magpies from 2015.
Wests Tigers, at the requests of Wests Magpies, have for the past three years managed junior development in South-Western Sydney, including the Wests Magpies Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams.

Wests Magpies will be responsible for running the Under 13s, 14s, 15s and 17s programs, along with Harold Matthews and SG Ball sides.
While Wests Magpies will take responsibility for these programs it’s important to note that a clearly defined pathway for young players to reach the NRL remains in place.
Wests Tigers and Wests Magpies will work closely together to ensure that young players have the opportunity to work their way through the grades, progressing from SG Ball to Wests Tigers’ NYC, NSW Cup and NRL sides.
Wests Magpies Chairman Mick Liubinskas said that the organisation is keen to integrate the junior development programs into their existing structure alongside Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield, as well as working closely with Western Suburbs Junior Rugby League and Group 6.
“Wests Magpies have made the decision to renew our charter and bring Wests’ junior programs back into the club culture we’ve built, now stretching from Under 13s up to Ron Massey Cup,” said Mr Luibinskas.
“The Board would like to thank Wests Tigers for the role they have played in administering the programs for the past three years and we will continue to work closely with the Club.
“It’s great to see so many Wests juniors representing Wests Tigers at NRL level such as Nofoaluma, Lawrence, Fulton and we look forward to this continuing for many years to come,” he said.
Wests Tigers CEO Grant Mayer said that the Club is committed to supporting long-term junior development programs.
“Wests Tigers are pleased that Wests Magpies are once again leading the charge in junior development in South-Western Sydney,” said Mr Mayer. “We will continue to support junior development across our footprint.”

I can't remember the full details but the south west junior footy will revert to Wests Magpies but be the feeder for Wests Tigers as they progress to seniors.

Thanks. Im still not sure what has changed ? Hasnt this always been the case ?

It was formerly Wests Tigers which unless I am mistaken meant the kids had to travel to Concord to train etc. Under Wests Magpies they remain in area.

Yep understand, I suppose its what you believe to be important. If you want to support a team without simply on the face of it without caring where its heart comes from then....

However I want to support a team from top to bottom and not just a bunch of black, gold and white jerseys that run out on the field each week.

What I want is to support a consistently competitive NRL team without hearing about fossils bitching about Magpies and Balmain. Very simple.

If having a competitive, financially healthy team means no support or input from Balmain, then so be it.

Listen MU, you big bully.

I didn't start this thread, it was some old Balmain supporter having a hissy fit.

Than the comments came along that the Magpie brand was weak, now that is not correct as pointed out by myself and others re: Colllingwood.

Than the magpies were attacked for being losers, I suggested that these poster should have a look at Balmain's history as they were no powerhouse of the competition, like Wests, over the first 90 plus years. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

Now he wants Wests Magpies to pay for the tigers brand, yeah - get real.

Good to see Wests Magpies taking back the junior development of the SW from the Wests Tigers - this will allow the Wests Tigers to concentrate on the NYC up.

Totally agree. I'm happy for both Balmain and Wests to be given some degree of respect however the JV's success is much more important than appeasing stupid minorities.

I agree one side should be able to buy the other side out but if Wests want the Tigers brand.

That shouldn't come cheap.......what price?

A presence on the board?

The Tigers are a loss making entity the brand would be worth very little. We don't need one eyed Balmain or Magpies fans onboard.

The Wests Tigers will remain however, the dead wood will be cut.
