I believe the ridiculousness started when a few ‘legal’ minds dominated refereeing and it hasn’t stopped since. The obstruction rule is unbelievable .

It started when coaching became all about trying to cheat the rules via various dark art methods. Most of NRL coaching is about that now. When you hear a coach say that he stays up until 3am in the morning he is up working on some dark art thing. We have to be constantly changing the rules to try to stay a step ahead of these parasites.

Coaching in any professional sport is at least partly about trying to exploit the rules to your benefit. That will never change.
