I hate it when bands sell out like offspring americana was the worst idea if they didnt make that cd i would probaly still like them. Blink 182 they started off good with dammit then went really bad with this new stuff.

I think bands are selling out to commercialism to get more fans and more money which i hate becuase they are selling out there old fans.

Do you know any bands that have sold out to you?

Metallica. In truth they sold out their old ideals when they released the black album. By the time they put out Load they just looked like a bunch of coked-up rock whores.

True. To think, they pulled in over $55 million in pure profit last year for the 'St. Anger tour', quite possibly one of the worst albums I've heard, although they still put on an awesome show, because they realise the large majority prefers their pre-Black material.
But if this is what Metallica want to do, then I have no qualms, MoP still sold more albums than the Loads so it was a poor attempt at selling out in one aspect.

what about the wiggles? didn't they change just cos they saw a niche market they could capitalise on?

Your bang on Half. They were going nowhere as the Cockroaches so they made a green dinosaur suit and hung out with a gay pirate and look where they are now.

two definitions of sell-out:

1. a band that's made more than $1000 in their entire lifespan and changed their sound slightly on their fifth album.

2. a band that started out making good music and getting a positive response from the teeny-boppers and catering to that market ever since.

metallica and the offspring are two offenders of definition two. everyone is an offender of definition one.

Blink 182 didn't sell-out. They just changed. The closest they got to selling out was their 2001 album 'Take off your pants and jacket', which seemed to just be about appealing to their teenage audience. But their most recent album is proof of how far they've come- they are no longer a punk rock band but a serious rock band who aren't afraid to have a few songs that are about darker subjects than being 16 and in love. Their song "All of this", in which Rob Smith from The Cure sings the main vocals is a perfect example of this, and subsequently is one of the best songs on the album :D

blink sold out big time. the fact that they kicked out scott raynor, the original drummer becasue he didnt want to cash in and change their style of music. when you compromise your style of music and a long time friendship in return for some cash then your a sell out.

blink soldout big time with enema of the state. compare enema of the state and the other trash with dude ranch and cheshire cat. dud ranch and cheshire cat are great albums and there not trying to purposely appeal to 13 year olds with fart jokes. the live album is a complete joke.

look where selling out got h20, there now defunct. lost so many fans when they left epitaph.

I agree with Mike that in 'Enema of the State' Blink were showing signs of selling out with songs like "All the small things", and "Take off your pants and jacket" was the definate low point of their existence, I only have that album becausea a mate burnt it for me. But their new album is proof that they have successfully risen out of the abyss, and they are no longer punk.
One music magazine wrote "Blink 182 are like the sweet girl next door who went away to boarding school and has returned home a sexy woman."
Very apt...
