With a bit of stat searching i've found out that Tamim thrives on seaming pitches i.e. in England and in NZ. Tamim averages 63 in England in tests and averages a healthy 40 in NZ. He has never played in Australia. So i highly doubt he would struggle in Ireland against the likes of Rankin and co. For a person to have been in international cricket for 6 years and to not have played a single test match in Australia is not good enough in Cricket Australia's terms.

Quote me if i'm wrong but the last time Australia played Bangladesh in tests was the 2005/6 series in Bangladesh? I clearly remember the first test in that series as Bangladesh nearly caused a massive upset. Bangladesh really showed some spirit and were unlucky at the end.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I remember the time before T20 exploded where the ICC was actually committed to the FTP.

And I thought the logic of bringing Darwin, Cairns and Townsville to international standard was so we could honour our FTP obligations and play Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and co. over the winter?

England are the only ones who actively honour the FTP. Wish everyone else did.

In a way it's dissapointing how Cricket Australia are not bothered to allow BD and Zim to tour Australia. I'd even be satisfied if its over the winter and an Aussie A team were versuing them. Although its just Bd and Zim i think it would still drum up some sort of viewership in Australia. All these tours should allow Zim/Ban to get more exposure in foreign conditions. Big teams need to support minnow teams by taking these type of initiatives...

Who would have thought Bangladesh's weakness would become their strength today? Pacers have been bowling very good so far.

Mushfiqur Rahim quits as captain following their loss to Zimbabwe. The poor guy obviously took the loss to heart. He has been Bangladesh's most successful captain so i think he should reconsider being captain

The FTP for minnows is an absolutely disgrace. Bangladesh's next series is in 4-5 months?? How are Bangladesh meant to develop as a team? ICC needs to fix this problem up somehow.

Ireland tied with Pakistan in an ODI overnight, and it was one of those bizarre matches where Ireland had to chase more runs than Pakistan scored in the same number of overs due to the ridiculous nature of the Duckworth-Lewis system.

I'm convinced they should be fast-tracked into the full team status.

The problem is that the BCCI practically run the ICC, and they couldn't care less about the development of the smaller teams.

Stirling is an outstanding OD cricketer. At FC level he's another story.

NZ touring Bangladesh at the moment. Their practice match against BCB XI has been washed out. NZ will lose valuable match practice before the test series starts.

I think the Bangers batting team is set but they need to toss up on which 3 out of Marshall Ayub, Mominul Haque and Naeem Islam should bat at #3 and/or #4. So the practice match would have been a good indicator to settle the batting positions out.

Should be a good series. Expecting some fight from Bangladesh but NZ's batting may prove too much for Bangladesh's pacers. Bangladesh need to heavily rely on spin once again. NZ's pacers may prove ineffective on a slow wicket as they wont get any seam of the pitch.

The Kiwis pace attack will swing and seam it all over the shop. The Tigers will struggle me thinks.

Drawing both tests is a satisfying result for Bangladesh. Bangladesh are making big strides. The only positions that are problematic is finding an opener to partner Tamim and finding class pace bowlers. Also Mushfiqur's decision making as captain has been very questionable. His style of captaincy is suited to ODIs and T20s, not test matches.

Sometimes i get pissed off about Ashraful. Just wen he was looking like a performer for the BD team. Just wen he looked like he matured as a batsmen. Just wen things were going well for him, the whole match fixing saga came out he is now banned.

Ashraful looked like fixing the top order troubles for Bangladesh (pun intended). Wen he scored 190 against Sri Lanka you knew he matured as a cricketer. He didn't look like getting out to stupid shots like he used to.

Just look at his highlights of his 190. He played Tendulkaresque shots. He was looking like a real classy batsmen - the type of batsmen you want at the top of the order

If Bangladesh still had Ashraful then their batting order would have been complete and very balanced.

1. Tamim Iqbal
2. Mohammad Ashraful
3. Mominul Haque
4. Naeem Islam/Mahmudullah
5. Shakib Al Hasan
6. Mushfiqur Rahim
7. Nasir Hossain
8. Sohag Gazi
9. Robiul Islam
10. Enamul Haque jnr
11. Al-Amin Hossain/Nazmul Hossain/Taskin Ahmed

Pacers are still mediocre though. We aren't going to win test matches with 2nd rate Sydney 3rd Grade pacers. Don't know how we will uncover world class pacers. The only way is if BCB start making pace bowling friendly pitches.

Losing only 2 tests out of 6 this year suggests that they are definitely getting there.

They can get by without Ashraful. Maybe look at Naeem Islam for that opening batting spot or maybe just keep perservering with Anamul Haque.

I thought Rubel Hossain bowled ok in the last match. Al Amin looked promising too from what I saw of him. He'll suit bowling out of the sub continent imo.

Bangladesh will now just draw test matches. Which is good considering the amount of test matches they have lost. Slowly wins will start coming. Yes we can get by Ashraful but i feel like if he was there then the team balance would have been just right. We could look at Naeem Islam but i don't think he would go well against the new ball. I rate him as a middle order batsmen.

I had huge hopes for Anamul. He just isn't test cricket material. Has terrible footwork and just struggles against everything. He has potential though because he has good hand eye coordination and very quick bat speed. Anamul needs to go back to domestics and work hard on his footwork. He is only 20 years old and has time on his side. Hashim Amla did the same thing and look how he turned out.

But Anamul should keep his position in the ODI and T20 side. He seems more suited to limited overs because he can get away with poor fotwork. But BCB selectors are famous for mixing up players with the right formats so i have a bad feeling that he will get dropped altogether. That just means our opening batsmen stocks are very thin. No way would i give dropkicks like Nazimuddin, Junaid Siddique, Shahriar Nafees another chance in the national team. Jahurul Islam should be given another go. Has gotten starts in every test match for Bangladesh but just couldn't go any further. The more confident he gets the more big scores we will see from him.

Shamsur Rahman is another opening batsmen that i like the look of. Was one of the top scorers in the BPL. But i'm not too sure how he would go in test cricket. By technique alone he is a very capable batsmen. Strong footwork and a classy legside batsmen. One of his trademark shots is sweeping bowlers for six and also flicking bowlers for six. When it comes off it is fantastic to watch. I would call him an organised batsmen.

Since the top order stocks are thin another option is to put Mushfiqur Rahim at #3. He can give the gloves to Anamul (who can be shifted down the order). Technique wise Mushfiqur is the best in the team. To me he seems wasted at #6 and with his grit and work ethic he should be very much comfortable at #3. He as also shown to be comfortable with the new ball. Its just an option that is available for Bangladesh.

Soumya Sarkar has huge potential to be Bangladesh's test opener of the future technique wise. Another huge talent coming out is Mosaddek Hossain. He is going to be another Shakib for the national team. He is a middle order batsmen and is only 17 years old. He played in the country's one day domestic comp (Dhaka Premier Divison) and bossed the experienced players and the BD national players like it was a piece of cake. Currently averages 64 in List A. Future looks very very bright for Bangladesh.

Mominul Haque should be a test specialist. He will struggle in limited overs because he can't accelerate when the run rate requires him to. He plays the ball by its merit. But i would try him out in ODIs to see how he goes. I was the only few people who backed him even though he had his critics in his early days. He possesses great footwork, light on his feet, good balance and is very strong with his cover drives. A very graceful batsmen to watch and a huge find for Bangladesh.

I would give Marshall Ayub a longer run in the team because he did look decent. Rubel has potential but he just never picks up wickets for some reason. Should be nowhere near the test side going by stats alone. Al-Amin does look promising. Has an outstanding FC average. We will never win test matches with sub-par pacers though.
