The level of animosity in the posts here would suggest that had the prodigal son returned to the Red V, those same forumites would've been delighted and taken extra delight in mocking the Sharks for missing out.
Drawing a long bow there dannyboy.

I'm pretty sure the people who didn't want Barrett coming back are the same people who are glad he has moved on.

What's more intriguing is the sharks supporters who have suddenly embraced Barrett after laying the boot into him for years. I see the dropped ball over the goal line got another run recently.

Btw,
One reporter has paraphrased Barrett in saying that he felt Dragons supporters were too hard on him. By default, the suggestion / inference is that Barrett won't be subjected to any flak down in the shire. Do you agree with this assertion?

Signed at Cronulla to play in the position he bitched about playing in at Saints. Win win situation I reckon.

Nobody seriously could have wanted him back at Saints wearing the red V. He was never a team player so he should fit in at scum city.

I'm so pumped up to abuse this dope come 2009. I just HOPE that they play the match at Kogarah or even WIN, not ANZ.

I'd be interested especially one member of the Sharks forum reacts. He gave me mountains of **** about Barrett at work.
He knows who he is. :)

Also, I wonder how much of the crap Barrett received is unfairly attributed to Dragons fans. I used to see the bloke around Shellharbour quite a bit, and he did cop a heap of abuse from perfect strangers. A lot of those blokes weren't Dragons fans at all, just regular Illawarrans sick of his mug on TV.

over paid, over rated, over the hill ....
haha, the things you say that you never would have when he was at your team.

Anyways, I've always hated the guy, over-rated and injury-prone were always two descriptions that came to mind. But I think he'll do 'a Jason Smith' and show that he can come back and give a few good years. But yeah, I doubt he even believes sharks are a chance, he just chose the highest bidder.

If Barrett is going to be one of your best then you are Playing the Playstation to much, this is real life not that pretend stuff of games and dreams! If it's not a saints home game and Kogarah or WIN then the NRL is in mre trouble than we could think.

dont be too hard on him - he always suffered from foot in mouth disease... i often cringed when he was captain and had to speak to the media - some of the things he said and the way he said them was appalling coming from the captain.
i think he just got his foot caught under his tongue yet again and it came out all wrong.

Will he cop sh*t from Sharks fans??? Not whilst ever Paris is on the field.
Seriously though, for the first year most fans will just be relieved to be rid of Noddy so he'd have to stuff up big time and constantly to earn the wrath of the fans. On the subject of copping it big time from your own fans though, one word: RYLES.

Will he be the first to deliver a premiership to the Sharks? The jury's out on that one - Sludge couldn't do it. Miller couldn't do it. ET couldn't do it. Hell Glossop, Gibson & Lang couldn't do it. Maybe the Sharks should recruit Steve Bradbury to help with the impossible.

I had to laugh when it was suggested that Barrett might get a top up from Channel 9.
Barrett chews his bloody words and sounds like a brain dead bumpkin.

Clubs, players, supporters, sponsors... these are all essential to the game.

I think Ryles copped an unreasonable amount of abuse, but it was from only one fan and he should have ignored it and kept moving. It stands to reason that both the fan and Ryles regret some of the things said, assuming they both are normally reasonable people.

With Barrett, quite frankly I have trouble believing that any player would allow fans to dictate where he plays. I suppose it takes all kinds but I'm not sold on that being the reason. It most likely came down to money and the proximity to family - ie normal reasons.

Fact is, players have been getting heckled for generations. And in those past generations the players were not even being paid enough to cop it on the chin, but they did.

In the modern age players change clubs, even the loyal clubmen... that's business. But the most passionate fans stick it out through thick and thin, and long after the star players have retired from the game. Passionate supporters, for better or worse, will follow their club until the day they die.

IMO, any elite player should be able to look at the big picture - they are there to play football first and foremost. Afterwards, they can sit back and enjoy the trimmings of a decade of playing at first grade level.

In summary, any player who bags out the fans is just a sook.

Of course, this is just my opinion and I'm happy to debate the point, and if neccessary step back if a better argument is presented.

Is there anyone seriously thinking Barrett will deliver a premiership? And in that I include Barrett himself.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Ricky Stuart believes in himself enough to think he can guide you guys to your maiden premiership. But belief and reality are two different things.

i hope barrett goes okay. i don't want them to beat us by any stretch, but i'd love to see him deliver what he's capable of.

he showed plenty in 1997 to suggest he'd be a champion player.

after the merger he seemed to only produce it spasmodically. the dally m in '00 was a mystery to me. however when playing under astute coaches at rep level, he was generally m-o-m material.

to be fair to barrett, at the tail end of '05 he was sharp. and all through '06 after anouncing his sl intentions, he absolutely tried his arse off, but just seemed to not quite make it happen.

good luck to the injury-plagued twig.
