BTW can you be sent off in afl?

Don't believe they have a send off rule in AFL.....

For those that are crying foul on Barry Hall being allowed to play this weekend......just remember he was found guilty. Because the charge was downgraded and he took the guilty plea, had a clean record over the past 3 seasons, etc. he didn't accrue enough points to be outed for a week.

It's the first season(I think) the AFL has used the grading/points system used by the NRL......although it will probably tweaked and talked about in the off season, I think it acheived the right and fair outcome in this instance.

I'm not sure about the grading, etc of Gehrig's incident earlier in the year but he did get it down graded from 2 weeks to 1 week and maybe he didn't have the 'clean' record over the previous 3 years to warrant the good behaviour discount that Hall got.

Anyway, Hall is playing and the Swans will be Premiers come Saturday afternoon (I hope!)

No send off rule? Whats to stop a team sending on a thug to knock out the other teams ace in the first quarter?

I think the umpire can send off a player in extreme circumstances such as that.

Laws of the game of Australian Football has an 'Order Off' law (Section 20) but it states at the start of that Law - "This Law 20 applies to all competitions other than the AFL competition."

http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=aboutthegame

So I'm not sure exactly what interpretation/law is provided for the AFL competition? I couldn't find anything else that referenced AFL specific rules. I suppose I can only say that in all the years I've been watching the AFL, I am not aware of any player ever being ordered off.

It would be interesting to know any history on this because I can think of a couple of specific instances off the top of my head that probably would have warranted an order off (Tony Lockett breaking a Swans players jaw several seasons ago when he played for St kilda comes to mind)

Two disgraceful decisions in the one night.

There will be a few players who have been rubbed out in the last two or three years who would be rightfully p1ssed off.
Doubley Agreed.

Nothing but this year they will incur double the normal penalty.

This came about after Browns and Lynch's disgracful effort in last year GF.
