I'm guessing you're going for the Bulls mate so good luck. I'd love to see them get through
to the GF (being an old Mainlander). Prescott is a bloody good coach, and they are a good
team. A good team that always seems to get better at this end of the season.

On the other hand, however, I have a few young mates in the Waitakere squad, and I wish them the best as well.

Cheers

Yep, def the Bulls. Glad Sione is able to play because it is a night game.

Would be nice to have them in the GF this year v the Lions, would be a fitting way to end the comp

That's why it's a night game..;-)

TBH, I'd love to see them get up and flog the Lions.

Hope it gets a great crowd along...Was looking in tonight's paper and there's minimal info on it- I hope it gets a bit more of a plug as it would be awesome to get a good crowd in for the Bulls swan song at home, they've done Canterbury League proud and get very little of the credit they deserve. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't follow them as I should have

Great entertainment. It could have gone either way.

Canterbury 35 Waitakere 18, was 25-10 at ht.

Was a good game. Bulls went flat for 20mins after ht but finished it off well

Watched the North Harbour vs Lions game. Was a very exciting game with good attacking football. Referee kept right out of it and let the game flow.
Lead changed throughout and it was 40-40 at full time. 5 minutes each way of extra time couldn't break the tie so on to golden point. After 96 minutes the Lions went over for a try to win the game.
Tawera commented that it was one of the best games of league he had ever seen. The goal kicking was amazing too. From memory 11 of the 12 trys were converted, some from the sideline.
The standard of football was very good and the majority of players were very fit.
I didn't get the team lists so I can't comment on individuals but everyone played well. If it is replayed it is well worth watching!

Enjoyed the Bulls final home game very much, small crowd but awesome atmosphere- Almost family like in many ways with some of the crowd getting into a sing-song with guitar accompaniment. Makes me really regret not going to more home games as it was a fun night, good game, and nice to be able to be up really close to the playing field.

I'll be watching todays Bulls game on MTV this salvo.

The more I see Bartercard the more I think what a tragedy it's going. Obviously moneys a reality thing and you can't go forever working on losses, but I just don't understand why was it not marketed and pumped up more? The way Bartercard has been done it reminds you of a Retail store that has a big sale but doesn't advertise or market it- Then wonders why it flops! Such a shame.

NZRL have a lot to answer for. Let's hope someone asks the right questions!

I'm looking forward to seeing a strong provicial club competitions once again. Hopefully MTV will jump onboard and broadcast 2 matches per weekend. It does not look good seeing only a handful (i.e. - less than 100) of spectators at each game. It is still hard for folk to identify with franchises rather than clubs.

I am guessing you are from Auckland

Outside of Auckland, the loss of the Bartercard is a massive blow

Fair comment. I am from Auckland, where 1200 people turned up to a club semi yesterday. Who will the BC Cup affect:

Northland - possibly, but was it good for locals there to see an imported team getting beaten each week?

Auckland - NO

Waikato - I don't think so. The Waikato region has a strong club comp and the WAICOA BAY competition is strong as well

BOP - See above

Gisborne / EC - No

Hawkes Bay - No. I'm not sure if they play a regular club comp, is'nt just a end of year competition now (could be totally wrong)nly

Manuwatu - Probably

Taranaki - No

Wellington - Unsure. There is an opportunity to rebuild the Wgtn comp once again. Money saved from the BC Cup can be used in regions such as Wgtn.

Tasman - No. Not even sure if they still have a regular comp.

Canterbury - Yes (from all accounts). See Wgtn comments

West Coast - No

Otago/Sthland - No

Beaver - You may be a lot closer than myself to the regions but can NZRL continue to support a comp that is losing alot of money? The NZRL does not have many avenues to generate income. I like many others on this forum can remember the days when the ARL clubs were well supported. This also applies to the Wellington and Christchurch club competitions. RL strength is at grassroots club level.

One last thing ... Pareto's Principle (google it)

I learnt something today. That Pareto's Principle sounds a lot like Parrot's Principle. Pareto, the Parrot. I'm going to buy myself a Parrot.

There's an 80% chance that 20% of the Parrot you buy will taste very nice!

I'm counting on that 20%, being juicy breast fillet. I should get a decent breast fillet out of a Cockatoo.

Can only really speak from a Canterbury perspective. In the past, pre BC, club players here used to have a big incentive to perform, with Canterbury selection to play for and big games against Wellington and Auckland at the end of the year. The way i understand this new structure, Canterbury will now play West Coast and Otago/Southland at the end of the year, and meaning no disrespect to those areas, it is really a nothing couple of games, and with not really having a next level to aspire too, which the Bulls provided, i fear a lot of Chch club players will be lost to rugby, with more levels to play at as the incentive.

As for the losing a lot of money argument, actually marketing the bloody thing may have helped a bit in that area. Having to go out of your way to find very, very basic info out to even attend a game won't draw many people in
