Former head of Channel Ten sport David Barham believes his extensive media experience holds him in good stead to win one of two vacancies on the Essendon board.
Barham, a lifelong Bombers fan, is one of six nominees running for the two positions vacated by director Daryl Jackson and chairman Paul Little.
Little has indicated that he will resign at the conclusion of WADA's appeal of the AFL anti-doping tribunal's verdict over the "Essendon 34" affected by the club's supplements scandal.
Deputy chairman Paul Brasher, Gai Williams, Nick Raptopoulos, Julian Porter and Paul Young are the other candidates

I hate all references to AFL in any sport other than AFL.

And as I don't watch that shitty sport, I shouldn't be hearing about it at all.

But the last few years or so has seen a massive influx of AFL jibberish in cricket commenatry across the board and it is not only boring and annoying, it's usually entirely irrelevant and completely contrived, almost like the commentators are forced to keep mentioning that f**king game.

There is a simple solution, international commentators.

No one overseas knows what AFL is, or cares about it.

There's plenty to choose from and it would actually improve the commentary of the game immensely.

Channel 9's commentary team now has the least amount of diversity ever. Mostly bogans.

I contacted 10 and asked them when one of their BBL commentators makes reference to an AFL player that they put a picture of that player on the screen so people like me who know little about AFL can be informed. That just might make them stop!

They were talking about a golfer the other (not sure why) and then one of the pinhead, non cricketer commentators has to mention that he's a Hawthorn fan. Doesn't even mention cricket just goes straight to flogball.

I made mention of this in another thread but the commentary annoys me to. These AFL loving Victorians need to understand that apart from Victoria and 3 other states no other place in the world follows Aussie Rules and it has completely no profile outside of Australia.

Plug your ears if you are planning to watch the Australian Open tennis from Melbourne. The gushing McAviney goes to water when the 7 cameras pan to a North Melbourne, Hawthorne or Collingwood...etc player in the crowd. 7 probably pays the players to be there so they can promote the up coming season.
