YOUNG Queensland fast bowler Cameron Gannon has been banned from bowling after biomechanical tests revealed his bowling action was illegal.

Despite previous testing showing him to be within allowable limits, fresh analysis revealed the 24-year-old bowled with an elbow extension outside the allowable level.

Tests at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra found that Gannon bowls with an illegal action for all deliveries, with an average elbow extension of 24 degrees well outside the allowable limit of 15 degrees.

Gannon has been suspended from bowling in interstate cricket until he passes another analysis of his action but he cannot request a fresh analysis for at least 90 days.

The tall quick enjoyed a breakthrough season with 31 Sheffield Shield wickets at 23 and nine Ryobi Cup wickets at 25.
