Excuse my ignorance but why would the Sharks upgrade Maloney's contract when he's contracted to the end of 2018 anyway? Beyond that maybe but he is a bit of a journey man.

He spoke very well on NRL 360 last night.

Said he has a pretty strict model he uses for the salary cap and mentioned the top 5 players of his team combined wage bill can't exceed 40% of the salary cap.

Obviously by the interview Flanno is going to stick to his guns that Maloney signed this contract and he expects him to honour it.

But said he could be in for good pay day for his next if his form keeps up.

You can see the way Flanno talked last night how determined and focused he is in going back to back.

Champion!

Hypothetical:
If the salary cap wasn't what everyone thought it would be and all of a sudden mainliners had to start signing for less than what they thought they were worth - and the Sharks asked Maloney would he take a cut from what he originally signed for to fall in line with this......I'd imagine his response would be that he wants whats on his contract.
What he signed for.

Because another team could offer him more for next year and he has family in (insert place) so needs to leave because of (insert issue). Contracts pffft.
