Bears Coaching Chat

Now we moves into speculation territory. BA is word on the street.

But Burgess, Willie Peters, Cartwright, JD, JT, John Morris, Holbrook, Dean Young, Josh Hannah, Ben Gardner are all a sniff especially Sam.

Then there’s Wayno as a pure wild card.

I think having a coach who can build a squad but also sell the game in non heartland territory while being someone players want to play for is the balance Bears will ultimately need.

I like the idea of Sam HC with Carty as an assistant tbh. Carty was good enough to help Kevie get broncos into a GF after all and he also built a decent Titans start up squad. Sam is someone current players look up to and has good media chat.

Who you got? Someone on this list or someone completely off key? Chat away

Dessie Hasler looks like he's about to come onto the market at some point this year..!

Nah, I've said for months, I'll be very surprised if it's not Brad Arthur. He's got experience, taken his teams to Finals and a Grand Final, is available, has family connections (his wife) to WA, and recently purchased a home near Freo.

Guarantees a marquee signing in Jake as well; grand final hero.

Arthur is a good call, very experienced but Josh Hannay would be a good call in my opinion

I believe Sam Burgess has pulled out, doesn't want to commit to being in Australia for 2026 to help setup the team.

AOB will be available soon.
As long as he doesn't bring a'one but KP with him. Gosh they were bad in that 2nd Half...

I doubt Bellamy would ever coach against the Storm so we'll put a red line thru him.
I like the idea of Holbrook seeing as he wasn't as bad as the Titans made him look. But I'd be 99% fairly sure that it'll be Brad Arthur

They'd need to put a huge package to Bellamy and Hughes to get the both of them. Is the coaches wage still uncapped?

I think it's capped but in a 'Football Department' salary cap which is different to the actual players salary cap. I think! Don't take my word for it 😬

Surely they will feel the pressure from the fans.
Wests run the Knights like a business, not a footy club as such. Knights fans turn up regardless of how good or bad the team is going. The fans keep doing that, the more money comes in, the business looks good. Whether the team is winning or losing doesn't make a difference to the financial spreadsheet.

If the Knights fans start boycotting games en masse as a protest to the coach, only then would action be considered. But Knights fans are too dedicated and loyal to do it ... regardless of how frustrated we may feel after every loss.

Big Mal Meninga throwing his hat into the ring for coach, with a succession plan over to Burgess … risky but at least people in Perth have likely heard of him…

Would be similar to how GWS had fumbler legend Kevin Sheehan as their first coach … difference being be had actually coached premiership winning teams … but that’s a minor squabble
