It's a topic that splits most Beatles fans and I'm wondering what posters here think.

Hate to say it but Sgt Pepper is over-rated...

My favourites are:

Revolver
Rubber Soul
A Hard Day's Night

Hrundi, Hrundi, Hrundi...... [-X

In all seriousness, what do not like about Sgt. Pepper, and in what way is it over rated?

You seem to know your stuff so I'm interested to hear your opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I like Sgt Peppers, I just think it gets rated more highly in the Beatles canon than it deserves.

It often hits number one in best album of all time lists and I don't see what it has over Rubber Soul and Revolver. I know it was groundbreaking at the time, but I just don't think it works as a concept album, and I don't think it necessarily is that unique given that they'd already recorded songs like Tomorrow Never Knows, Strawberry Fields Forever and I Am The Walrus.

My bias relates to the fact that most of the current bands I like were chiefly influenced by the Beatles middle-period, Big Star, Badfinger and the Beach Boys, amongst others.

My favourite Beatles songs are "She Said She Said" and "Rain", so my perspective may be different to most.

Having said that, to me "A Hard Days' Night" is the best rock'n'roll album of all time. Next time you get the chance, turn it way up and scream along to it. It's an awesome display of their unrivalled ability to soak up their influences and add their own virtually limitless talent for a dizzying result.

"The Beatles" would probably be my "desert island disc" just because of it's length and diversity.
